Arise my children and go to where the truth has been hid. Tell your young ones about the struggle that is filled with hope and promise...in this faith. Stand on the liberty that you have been set free and will only be bonded again by your own ignorance. Change is in the revolution and the revolution is here.
My National Anthem, Creed and Code. Give it up for GSH. Whatever his life was, his failures, his accomplishments, his periods of stagnation all culminated into the intellectually brilliant pieces he managed to formulate into music. His music may not have been what it became had it not been for all of the places he's been... R.I. P. Brother Gil... We Respect, Love and Miss you already
Bless the memory of Gil Scott Heron Thank you brother dear heart you took me to all of the places you've been! My life is the richer for the times we shared together!
This is a song that makes you look at where your at in life and should be working to change the world and where it will be. For our childen. From Big Dee To little Gee My baby bro Glenn.Love you Darryl.
Here you go sir: In my lifetime, Ive been in towns Where there was no freedom, or future around Ive been in places where you could not eat Or take a drink of water where-ever you please And now that I meet you in the middle of a mountain where Im reaching on out from within And all I can think of are chapters and see the All of the places weve been Im not such an old man so dont get me wrong I ???? survival of constantly strong Ive been to Mississippi and down city streets
This song is incredibly inspirational - the "middle of a mountain" symbolism is powerful and universal, pays homage to those who came before us, and urges us to reach. GSH at his very best.
This is great. If we can get the young african american men to realize the great struggle that was made for what we take for granted today. I wonder if things would be different?????
Wonderful lesson. Wonderful vision. I LOVE the way the phrase in Martin's speech - "The Brilliancy of Hope" -just "happens" to match the frame in which Barack Obama appears.

Ive seen days of plenty and nights with nothing to eat
But Im not too happy bout the middle of a mountain so
Soon Ill be climbin again
All I can think of are chapters and see the
All of the places weve been
Raised up in a small town in a country down south
So Ive been close enough to know what depressions about
Based on this mountain with a rare chance to see
Dreams once envisioned by folks much braver than me
And since their lives got me to the middle of a mountain where

I cant stop and give up on them
Their lights can shine on and inspire me to climb on from
All of the places weve been
All of the places weve been
All of the places weve.been a lot of places, yeah from
All of the places weve been
Been down, been down, been down
A lotta roads and places
All of the places from
All of the all of the all of the (fade out)

"And all I can think of are chapters and scenes of
All of the places weve been"
and
"I'm the latest survivor of the constantly strong"

Thank you for this. I can think of no better lyrics to portray the struggle and the courage of heros like Dr. King and "President" (WOW!) Obama.
