If you've ever wanted to play a 3rd person cover shooter, play Gears of War, Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell or something. Those games have deep combat systems that don't repeat. If you like climbing, then check out InFamous, Prince of Persia, or Assassin's Creed.
But the truth is, I could forgive that... I could forgive ALL of it, if the writers actually knew anything about exposition, pacing, character development, and all that.
You can't just fight 30 guys, solve a puzzle, then have an entire cutscene spoon fed to you! It has to be slow and subtle.
Drake is portrayed as an everyman yet keeps doing action hero things, but Naughty Dog tries to play both sides of the field, without being dedicated to either one.
There wasn't that much hype about Assassin's Creed at all :| And it only becomes repetitive if you play it repetitively... There is a lot of freedom in how to approach every target and that's good because it leaves room for the players creativity. So if Assassin's Creed is repetitive you're simply dull...
However AC:Revelations was def. overhyped. It's an exact clone of AC:BH with another map and different names for the same stuff and a LOT of FUCKING ANNOYING unnessessary added bloaty BULLSHIT

Halo's ad campaign ramped everything up and Halo 3 delievered. AC was incredible. These guys know nothing. Really. They called Duke Nukem one of the greatest games of the year. Wtf, that game was shit (or so I hear, I can't really judge on that one).

@boomerSooner9559 Look at the release date of the video. AC was repetitive Halo 3 added forge that was its big upgrade. As for Duke Nukem the whole point of those games is always to have fun and make fun of the current generation. Also Duke Nukem Forever was still a myth in 09.

@haruo300 To be honest, Halo added loads of new guns and vehicles, a new sweet campaign, a great story, forge, theatre mode, and the starting point of a whole bunch of great machinimas. COD on the other hand is literally the same thing every single game.

Personally, I think the most overhyped game on that list was Duke Nukem...apparently the only game on the list they like. I mean DNF....ended up being pretty much just that...a DNF. I mean, after 12 years....Duke changed....not at all. But this is why I don't trust critics.
