  • 8 years ago, I walked away from my job, my apartment, my car and than my identity. I did this because of several reasons. I was diagnosed with schizoaffective and dissociative disorder. Supposedly alters, but I threw out these records and hadn't asked for any more because of the huge debt with the medical services. I've been on SSDI and lived from check to check, month to month and year to year. Soon, it will be a decade. My children had grown and graduated without me in their lives,... as usual

  • About mind bending crazy jaunts --

If you come from a family, group of friends, or culture that parties a lot - that is, when partying and hedonism are the *norm* - hypomania will rarely be noticed. How then are hypomanics to realize they have a problem when they look so normal compared to others? This oversight is a big problem in info on bipolar II. The psychiatric world needs to better realize this asap.

  • Usually you'll be diagnosed with Depression, given antidepressants, then it will make it worse. It took about 25 years for my diagnosis, but I had often suspected that was my problem.

I'm in my 50's and you should note that usually, as you age, you'll have fewer "ups" and more and longer periods of depression as you age. So it's really important to make sure you honestly tell them your history, including those times where you were "on top of the world."
