Pavarotti can and always did carry a tune (bless his soul), he never had to climb to a note. Simon although his song, learned a valuable lesson. Oil and water do not mix. You can stir the hell out of it but very quickly it separates.  Pavarotti gave his respect to sing backup for Ordinary World. Let's leave it at that.

I'm a massive Duran and Pavarotti fan but I have to admit this performace is very wobbly. Pavarotti should have taken the first high note at the end, c# ('every world') and Le Bon should hve sung 'is my world' phrase instead of the other way around. It's a lot to do with it being badly arranged, it just didn't work.

This is really Simon's song and he sings it the best ever as could be sung.

When it's contrasted with Pavarotti singing it, it just ends up being out of joint.

It's not meant for a tenor singing it.

So whereas this can be WOW, Simon singing with Pavarotti, at the end of the day it's just ... nah, doesn't work.
