Freshman year in high school...I got this album dubbed from one of my homies. This song was on rewind constantly on the Orange Line...cutting out of school to hang at Forest Hills Station. Waddup!!!
this was just boom box on the #10 bus headed to Currywoods or Bayonne the Bowling alleys w/a few wild white girls we had in da Bay! n in Hoboken 4th st. park n 3rd st. arcade (Ramones) and ofcourse 1st st. Yauco's pool tables and never the less our weed &H& other things like choclate ty in the village Washington Sq. Park or the L.E.S. off Houston on Clinton and Ludlow or the white house! the memories! 1991 was sick bro and i lived it up to the fullest! cant 4get Cypress hill or nice n smooth
@DeeeDotBo btw i was killin it up @da Greenville section of Jersey City when Curry Woods was projects stil up (now they knockd down 2sum town houses) but i was killin it @da house party's & basement parties with only strobe lites goin wit my White on Black 8Ball Leather Jacket everybody screamn "go 8ball go 8ball Go!" while i was cuttin up da floor dancin my ass off i had summa da dopest moves, big shot outs 2my Hoboken PJ'z niggaz= Cutty, Albee ,Anibal,&Jay Wheeler they were da dopest! knodat!

I guess people's minds are getting narrower and narrower...yes, this track is about the same things that present rappers convey...but in way that makes you think about it..These guys put double the time into their work and make half the money, but in the end, they are hip hop hall of fame, the present rappers couldn't even spell it
Check out my channel if you want to hear meaningful hip hop off with a new school twist. I'm a upcoming rapper, but I use old style beats and twist them up. You'll like me if you like ATCQ. I re-did Bonita Applebum check em out!

damn. i'm a guitar player myself and i really love some good rock. generally i hate rap and hip hop these days but i've listened to all these black sheep songs and others from the 90s and wow. this is some sick stuff. intelligent, catchy, great rhyming, sick beat. just awesome. i wish rappers these days would do stuff like this.
@RoKr93 90s hiphop is the best... and its still around today. you just gotta search for it. i hope it comes back, lupe is super sick and kid cudi is cool too
One thing I realized from listening to the golden era of hip hop and this era of "rap" (and I use the term rap loosely), back then every single song in the album was perfected and it was all epic songs, but now punk ass rappers release one or two songs that are catchy and rest of the album sounds unfinished and sounds like shit. It's all about making the most money not for the love of music which is sad.
probably my favorite track right in front of strobelite honey on this black sheep album but the album is kinda whack
its only got 5 solid good songs everything else is irrelevent to their native tounge style
which disappoints me. i had such high expectations when i coped this album. i thought it was going to be as raw as a tribe album but it was far from that. i give em mad props for this track tho
@tgreersf Close, but the song is REALLY about Black Sheep's career. @tgreersf Close, but the song is REALLY about Black Sheep's career. That's where the talk of money and bitches comes from. But that's a fraction of the song's true meaning. It's all in the lyrics, you just have to take it for more than surface value.
tidaking816 6 months ago 2
@tgreersf I think the 2nd verse strongly hints the intent behind the song: "Had to wait a while but the while has been watied / Never gave up hope in myself no debated / Didn't shed a tear when I wasn't picked, cause I got a cone now / Want a lick?"
Seems like the song is more about the struggle involved in attaining success while trying to maintain faith in yourself.
mjn76 1 month ago
@tgreersf The third verse touches on rejection and how the music industry perhaps didn't recognize their musical talent early on: "Funny how they find ya when they told ya 'Get lost...' / Wasn't my loss / Thought you were the boss / You never knew how much the sherbet cost!"
The folks who rejected him now can't seem to get enough:
"I see em with a spoon. I see 'em with a cone..."
Maybe Dres foresees their eventual decline in popularity:
"Hurry up and get a scoop before it's gone."
