Shame, all these people who ran away from the realities of our country don't really have a choice but to slag her off, don't they? Let me tell y'all, you're missing a great era where we have the opportunity to shape a great country, and we do every day. Good times:-)

Was sitting in a bar not to long ago in a Zinkwazi Beach. I had had a few drinks had been doing karaoke earlier at the stage bar. This man to my left turned to me and said.. nice singing. I said thanks. I said do you sing. He said, well he used to.. I asked if he was part of a band. He said, well he works in the Suger mill now days but used to.. I asked if I perhaps knew any of the songs, He said yes, maybe and proceeded to sing the first versus of Man on the moon... wow. Best day ever.
I love this song, but what does it have to do with this KKK trash posted here. f you ran away to wherever in fear of black rule then you were never a South African. Sies
I mis the old south africa so much, dont really care about the old ways just the good life we had and that we will always be the best in everything doesnt matter where we are now!!
@nunu814 shit, don´t make me get all homesick now, because the homesick I have is in my memories of the old SA. The new SA is a shit hole and here in Europe is the best place for us to be right now, we can never have those days back again :(
If all you so called ex-pats miss SA so much....why don't you just go back and stop whinning like a bunch of centred Afrikaaner brats....Always saying you miss thisand miss that? What the F..k doing over here then? Its people like you who make me sick......Give SA a chance.....And anyway, it belongs to africans now, and always has....Not Afrikaaners!
@dmchapman11 Loyalty isn't a bad thing. We are all Africans. Some didn't have a choice in leaving. Perhaps the country would move forward if people like you would stop judging others?
@Tintalasia Yeah right.....everybody has a choice ...and you chose to leave for reasons only known to you....I don't judge.....I speak from first hand experience...so please, spare your self righteous speech for someone who cares! Nothing personal.
@dmchapman11 Seeing self-righteousness in my comment is your prerogative. A little defensive there, are we? Thing is, it got personal when you decided to slate all expats in your comment and not with very polite language. What 'first hand' experience do you have? Not being able to leave? Or not wanting to leave? I don't blame you either way. I'd have stayed if I could, but life doesn't give everyone that choice. Just don't badmouth those who do have to make choices that don't come easy.
@dmchapman11 ah you can say what you want about us afrikaaners but
deep down you known that this country was much beter off when we
controlled it....maybe its because our iQ avarge is above 72 .This country is being run by apes, malema is a prime example. They rely on the infrastructure that we created, we south africans.Black and White. Apes like eg. U never did something for this country.U feed on the work of others and if you ever get somewhere it will only be because of BEE, u bloody agent
@KalahariSurf No - The Brass Bell is in Kalk Bay - next to the station - was still there when I was last in SA 8 years ago. Rotunda was in Camps Bay - but closed in the eighties or late 70's. There were always live bands there on weekends - Ballyhoo was the main one. Eddie Eksteen etc.
As I have stressed before hnorky ( and thank you for your constructive message ), us locals that have remained behind over here in SA need you expats more than ever. Come home.
BTW, a certain expat (*wink*) just uploaded two dozen 70s Springbok Radio hits that aren't found elsewhere on youtube! So for you fans of McCully Workshop, Glennys Lynne, Maria, Jessica Jones, Lauren Copley, Barbara Ray, Dave Mills, Flood, Tidal Wave and Buffalo, you've got a treat waiting for you! Sorry I didn't have more, but those were all I had on MP3. And forgive their crude and unoriginal appearance. I'm new to all this!
We left SA in '82 for America, but my heart never left Pinelands. I think South Africans tend to overrate many of the local bands (Rabbit, McCully Workshop), but we did manage some truly great acts that were up to international standards: Tidal Wave, éVoid, Boom Boom Room, and of course Ballyhoo all had potential to be overseas hits. Shame I missed the peak of the SA music scene in the 80s. I still pine for "home" though....
All SA expats must know that some South Africans that stayed behind are thinking of you, and hope you return to our shores one day, despite crime, the ANC, AIDS, corruption, polluted water, potholed roads, the ANC ( again ), and last but not least, Angus Buchan, the new "pope", who is nothing else but an ANC lackey.
I'm seriously considering going back "home" to Cape Town when I finish my Master's Degree. I can no longer read or write in Afrikaans and forgot what samp or bobotie tasted like many years ago! Without us educated professionals (of all colours), SA has no future. We're the backbone of any successful country. Ive begged every SA I've met in America to return "home". I love the USA too, because my Ma and Pa are Americans, but it's not all its made out to be.
There is a South African restaurant in Brooklyn, NY called Madiba's. It used to have a South African chef and the food there was outstanding authentic food. But the chef is gone and now it's Mexicans running the kitchen and the food reflects it, unfortunately. The head waiter is one of the okes from The Soft Shoes (I forget his name now). There are some online stores you can get Pro Nutro, istampu and other SA stuff.
This really takes me back to the Days of The Carlton Ice Ring, Club Chicago, Coppacabana, Plumbcrazy, San Lorenzo, Boobs. Bella Napoli, etc, I LOVE YOU MY SOUTH AFRICA, YOU´LL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART FOREVER AND A DAY ! ! ! MISS YOU LOTS . . .
@concorde180 hahahaha.....we still speak afrikaans very loudly and get very weird looks. I don´t care, I´m still proud to be an afrikaner here in Germany. There aren´t many here!!!
I love this song... didn't even know it was by a South African band until I started searching it (blame my age and ignorance, thought it was an international hit cos it's so awesome) and only got REM. Damn. Glad I found it!
trust me...but im not a fan of any political party be it ANC or old NP or DA. government of any kind is for uncivilized people. once we grow to understand the inter-relationship amongst all that inhabit this planet we will forever be for ourselves first. i still like ballyhoo...cytotoxix stop being so angry dude:O)besides...im self employed, two kids and married to a white German lady and i make hella money. seems like Europeans love my money making black ass.
Tell me hammacyde, and be honest : what positives has the ANC GENUINELY contributed to SA since '94 ? You sound like a civil servant. Affirmative action-appointed darkie, mmm ? You sit on your dark fat ass all day and do sweet fuckall. Like the rest of your black "brudders". For the record : white South Africans are much sought after the world over, I don't think the same applies for you and your ilk, because you do not know the meaning of the word PRODUCTIVITY. We whites do.
i like this song alot.whats up with the bullshit comments about how great shit was during the apartheid days...see u stupid white motherfukkers had it good then and nothing really changed for u. south africa during apartheid was a different story for those of colour...fukking idiots will never change...
You are an ignorant racist idiot. And yes non whites can be racists too, just try telling a joke about blacks or indians whereas when you tell one about any white group it passes with no offense. Keep playing your race cards, who gives a shit anyway, in my heart I honestly wish the world was better and that there were no racial barriers but it just doesn't seem to let anyone go, be it whites, blacks etc. I guess it's kind of like dogs having a thing with cats.
All these comments from these SA clowns about "political bullshit" that happened back in the 80s. Let me remind these twits that the same regime gave this once safe and beautiful country over to an even MORE corrupt political regime. If you gonna comment on political matters, then do so with consistency, otherwise shut the fuck up. If things are better now, why the fuck did you emigrate, cuntfaces ??
I was only 7 or 8 when this hit came out, back in the early 80s. Brings back plenty of good memories of an era when we were spoilt with choice, music-wise - and SA was a safe place, unlike today ...
The Springbok Top 20 of the 1970's. Lots of ABBA & Boney M. Gruesome Gresh. "Pop Shop" on the lone TV channel once a week. How long was that? 30 mins. This song is making me sleepy. "..SA produced some killer bands." Name a few. Rabbitt? Julian Laxton Band?
woweeeee memories,I used to go see Ballyhoo whenever they played at Dylan's on Rocky Street, Yeoville. Fergie was simply the cutest. Anyone know whatever happened to Diamond Dogs, they used to play Rocky Street around that time too? Living in Alaska now, miss SA a lot.
Diamond dogs folded in 2001. I played with them from 98-01. Did bucketloads of gigs. it was a very well-loved band. i recorded a new album with nic, the main vocalist, last year. Go to my channel and check out a video or two of Nic in the studio.
(Man on the moon) brings back so many good memories! but there is another SA singer's music that I am looking for : Gene Rockwell, he sang a song called (Heart) I have been looking for it for ages, hope someone has it or knows where I can get it.
thanks for the reply, i have been trying for ages to get heart and finally my brother who is in SA said that he will go and buy the CD for me and send it to the UK to me but I would rather save him the hassel if I could get it in any way from you? i am not really concerned in getting Rockwell,s other music only really Heart i want, its a song that my Mom used to play when i was a child and I grew to love. Have not heard it for years.
Thank You for offering to send it to me, what about uploading it from your side onto youtube then i can download it from there, it does not have to have a movie attached to it, just upload the song and maybe a picture of the cd or record whatever you have of Gene Rockwell. If thats too much hassel maybe just send a audio file to my email address? whatever is easiest for you? I went to a Gene rockwell show years ago in SA and only then realised that he had polio in one leg. heard that he's dead?
Brilliant music, South Africa produced great music artists equivalant to international artists but never got good exposure due to political bullshit. Great band. Should put more SA bands on yt.
