Well it actually depends on the genre. Shonen is mainly targeting the male audience, while Shojou targets the female audience. Then there's Josei which is targeting older females, and Seinen which targets older males [[Between 18 - 35 to be exact]]. And as for the age group of Shonen and Shojou, they are actually targeting from kids to older teens in Japan, but when it's shown in, like America it's only for teens since...It's America. :I
