Therefore when the Alaska National Gurad was called, that had nothing to do with Governor Palin. Those were orders from the Federal Government that she was carrying out. They were not orders that came from her.

Hmm believe I got that brief before i went active; oh I dunno When i was in the Guard and asked how soon can i deploy...
Oh and that might also be the reason that when a State has a national disaster it reqest help from the other States to mobilize their guard units. The president REQUESTS the support of the National Guard for help in natural disasters. Thats Also why transfers between state guard units must be approved by both STATES units; not a central personell office like the Regular Army has. The national guard is a state funded and operated military unit. It can be loaned to the federal government on the orders of its executive branch, but It is subject to recall at any time by the state that owns it. And yeah my grammer isn't perfect but at least you dont have to re-read my comment to see the # of sentences in it.

@Spacemanspiff44 I know US History is it is obvious that you aren't clear on it. When the Federal Government calls upon the National Guard, then the National Guard must respond. They cannot refuse. Therefore when the Alaska National Gurad was called, that had nothing to do with Governor Palin. Those were orders from the Federal Government that she was carrying out. They were not orders that came from her.

@FURepublicans Mabey im not being clear to you. The federal government can REQUEST the support. The state government can approve/disaprove the request and the governor must give the order. Its called the Chain of Command. In the national guard the end of that is the state governor until she/he turns them over to the Main Army or Airforce for OPERATIONAL command. PERIOD. Hmm believe I got that brief before i went active; oh I dunno When i was in the Guard and asked how soon can i deploy...

Oh and that might also be the reason that when a State has a national disaster it reqest help from the other States to mobilize their guard units. The president REQUESTS the support of the National Guard for help in natural disasters. Thats Also why transfers between state guard units must be approved by both STATES units; not a central personell office like the Regular Army has. But hey man I just heard it straight from Guy whos been admin in the Guard for like 20 years...

Therefore, those commands for them to be deployed to the combat zone come from the Commander in Chief, namely the President. They do not come from the Governor.
