About any bad nubs, there are four nasty nubs on the knee inner frame parts that are exposed when you bend the knee, unless you took the time to clean & sand them off properly.
One really bad articulation point of this kit is the antiquated ball joints on the hips. They prevent the legs from playing wide. Otherwise, this guy's aesthetics are great. How I wish for a RX-78-2 2.0 that combines the great look of this kit with the inner frame of the 2.0.
As for the v2.0 - the problem isn't that it's "old school", the problem is that it's ugly. In terms of proportions (the only thing you can really judge when you remove all the surface details from a design) the v2.0 isn't even very "old school" at all, it's just awkward and messed-up. IMO anyway.
i actually like both looks. the 2.0 looks like the anime version which is nice because it actually captures the nostalic flair really well but the OYW version looks a little more realistic in terms of details which is a good thing, too!
i just like that you have so many options what you can buy with the entire RX-78 line!^^
'cmon... you not done the RX-78-2 v1.5? them legs were 1st seen in that one. I have the game colours version of this guy but not made him yet. Save him for a rainy day.
I have both the game version and the anime version, my game version is still sealed and unassembled. I also have the game version of all the zeon suits as well, all sealed and unassembled. I'm probably gonna keep them seal because of the rarity of the set.
@PinkGundamOfDoom I do appreciate your concerns, however I have already built the standard versions of these kits and have enjoyed the build. I'm in no hurry to build them again unless I really have nothing else I can build.
@jabman025 have you tried using hotglue thats how i like to create beam effects best thing to do is to make a rough outline of your beam on some greaseproof paper then build it it up from there letting it dry between layers also you can paint it with tamiya clear afterwards aswell
@jabman025 - How about using a spare Bandai beam saber effect part? Or perhaps try some clear saber aftermarket parts that you could jury rig into a shot effect? HLJ has plenty of 'em in various colors. Look for the WAVE brand.
I may build a model of the grandaddy of Gundams, but I do need to get the Wing and Epyon, as well as Heavy Arms first to work through those MG's. but I do like the more mechanical look of the One Year War model better than the 2.0. Thanks Jabman for giving me the knowlaedge to pick my Grandaddy Gundam.
I'm not actually a fan of the rx-78-2, but will say I like this version quite a bit more. I guess the 30th ani 1/144 hg is more based on this version too with the higher detail level.

The game version of this kit isn't as rare as you might think - it does get reissued periodically.
Fun fact: the leg frame on this kit is the exact same parts from the MG Gundam v1.5 released back in 1999.

@jabman025 try taking a beam saber cut off the peg and give it a wider 1

Which Gundam should I get in MG? The Ver. Katoki, OYW, or Ver. 2.0?
WatcherMovie008 4 weeks ago
@WatcherMovie008 If you like it's design, go with the 2.0. If you don't like it's design, o with the OYW.
ndalum75 4 weeks ago
i think it a great idea but wouldn't using the 2.0 make it a lot more anime accurate

oyw or verka which is better in you opinion

i really like the inner frame of the 2.0......however, the old school looks of the 2.0 sucks!! getting the OYW ver. for me, is the thing.........

Are you gonna use some "creative" effect parts to recreate the laser that comes out of the rifle?

@psybuster05 I really want to do the laser................I just have to figure out how to do it

*Amazing* idea, jabman. I've often toyed with the idea of making my own re-creation of that infamous scene. I'm giving the idea a big thumbs up.

between this and the 2.0 which would you recommend?
l337m4s73r 4 weeks ago
@l337m4s73r 2.0 has better articulation and accessories, but this has more panel lines, so which is more important to you?

WOAH. This kit looks FANTASTIC. I thought I'd get the 2.0 without question.... but now i'm rather torn lol
