There have been several new versions since the M800 series. The 900 series has been out for years, and is currently being surplused, and there is a newer model called the FMTV that is a pretty wicked truck too.
Not a chance.... I just swapped out all these old skinny tires in the back with the bigger super-singles that are on it. The reason I drove down into the pit was so the bed would be level with the roadway so I could just roll the old tires in the back. I also had a buch of nay-sayers saying that the new tires would rub on the bed when articulating. This proved that not to be the case. Believe me - this truck need no help when it comes to traction...
As a mechanic with USMC Motor T, I got to drive different types of equipment, but the M813 and M809 were my favorites. That's a great truck you've got there.
Sorry - I don't check this that often - the tires are Michelin XL 16-20's. That translates to about 53" tall.
You can get them all over the place. Ebay sells tons of them. Most folks don't have the power or drivetrain to turn them. They weight about 500 lbs. each.
Thanks for the comments! Wait till you see video's of my new HEMTT 10 ton ride!
On the M813 you're always in 6x6 mode. It's basically AWD with an overgeared front axle and sprag clutch in the transfercase. As soon as the rear wheels slip, the front gets poweer.
Those rims and tires are just bad ass.
