i have snuck into that building numerous times. it is truly breathtaking they recenty started reparing the roof and windows and ARE goin to restore it. i have to sneak in one last time before its fully restored

They should dismantle this building piece-by- piece and reassemble & restore it in New York City, where the original Pennsylvaina Station used to be. New York needs a large gateway to replace the rats nest that the current underground station is.

This city seems so run down now but was likely an amazing place to be during the steel/auto manufacturing heydays of the 60s. So is it really that bad now? Still, I find it beautiful in some sort of almost post-apocalyptic way.

This building is iconic, like Washington monument. So, even they abandoned other places, they should have kept this place ''nice and clean''. It is not very good explanation that there was no customers, even it is truth but this building would have be office or storage building, or anything else than abandoned, because when it's abandoned, there's no way to safe it anymore, but 20 years ago it was.

I imagine that many of these desolate decaying buildings are considered or were considered historical land marks, so why doesn't city of Detroit treat them as such and rebuild them or tear them down and put new structures up!
@719kai719 Actually a prime example of what you're asking is Historic Fort Wayne at the intersection of Livernois and West Jefferson. Many improvements and restoration efforts have been made to the old forth in the last 5 or 6 years. The 1848 barracks is once again inhabitable, the post hospital which was a hazard has been demolished, and hundreds of small but still very meaningful efforts go on weekly to return a historic site from the teeth of decay and neglect.

This city seems so run down now but was likely an amazing place to be during the steel/auto manufacturing heydays of the 60s. So is it really that bad now? Still, I find it beautiful in some sort of almost post-apocalyptic way.

This building is iconic, like Washington monument. So, even they abandoned other places, they should have kept this place ''nice and clean''. It is not very good explanation that there was no customers, even it is truth but this building would have be office or storage building, or anything else than abandoned, because when it's abandoned, there's no way to safe it anymore, but 20 years ago it was.

How is that even a response? "Government control" is not what is causing Michigan's problems. It's cheaper to manufacture in China/ Mexico now that trade barriers have been lifted. Michigan was a manufacturing center. It lost out, like all of the manufacturing centers in the US, and EUROPE, and JAPAN. That's the reason for Michigan's decline.

I imagine that many of these desolate decaying buildings are considered or were considered historical land marks, so why doesn't city of Detroit treat them as such and rebuild them or tear them down and put new structures up!

@719kai719 Actually a prime example of what you're asking is Historic Fort Wayne at the intersection of Livernois and West Jefferson. Many improvements and restoration efforts have been made to the old forth in the last 5 or 6 years. The 1848 barracks is once again inhabitable, the post hospital which was a hazard has been demolished, and hundreds of small but still very meaningful efforts go on weekly to return a historic site from the teeth of decay and neglect.

Thirty years ago, I worked on the 9th floor of the MCS, three years later, I was out of a job. eff "Con" rail, and their wealthy executives who let that railroad go down the tubes, and then sold it off in two chunks.
