I was helping with a program at the National D-Day Memorial for the 65th anniversary of D-Day with reenactors (for the fifth year in a row.) We do a lot of stuff with the veterans in our hobby. Gross inaccuracy of the uniforms, equipment, hair, and behavior of the people in this film aside, what reenactors do is MUCH more meaningful.

Just so you know I'm not some random, I was the DOP on Sock War. It is a Canon XL2 (DV format). It's not just the camera though, you need to learn how to use it. I've seen stuff shot on great equipment that looks mediocre because they don't know how to use it.
As a WWII buff and someone who prides myself on knowing everything there is to know about WWII, can I just say how offensive the lack of attention to detail in this short is? What on earth were you guys thinking? The uniforms are all wrong, the accents are terrible and the woodland looks NOTHING like Europe. Quite frankly I am appalled. You should all be ashamed of yourselves!!! I am writing the Prime Minister of Canada to have this clip pulled.
Oh wait.... this is a student project film and what is on showcase is the productive quality and you guys uploaded it to share it with friends, not with random fools who have little more to do with their time than start petty arguments over student project films.
I thought IMDB had some of the most foolish people on the net, but apparently Youtube can certainly compete. The fact that a bunch of people felt so offended by a student film which sends a simple message based on a war that occured more than 60 years ago, supporting the fact that our veterens and the true events of the war have become obscured or even trivialised is quite disturbing.

Look "Larry", I have tried to explain this to multiple people, but it doesn't seem to be getting through. My friends and I are film students. Our assignment was to shoot a pre-written script so we did. It's not about a war - it's about the relationship and bond formed between two brothers.
Besides - if you read the synopsis, you'd have discovered it says "Dragged into the middle of a poorly staged WWII reenactment..." key word poorly. Don't try to tell me I have disgraced the veterans of WWII - because you couldn't be farther from the truth. I had relatives killed during the Italian Campaign.

This video presents perfectly legitimate viewpoints! The younger generations of today have no idea what war was actually like, and many see it as just a game. If you want to see offensive 'war footage', go check out some of the videos on how American soilders are treating citizens in the Middle East. And that is true footage, not even 'offensive re-enactment'.

It's not about accurate reenactments - it's about the naivety of children, and a social reflection on their perception of war. You're seriously picking on the wrong guy here: I am as big a military history buff as the next guy. However, if getting your little "war council" together makes you feel empowered, by all means go for it - good film making often results in controversy.

It's a shame you can't open your eyes to the satire of the piece, because you've completely misread our intentions. Brilliant work guys. You will all go far if you keep pumping stuff of this quality out. I have seen things on the big screen look far far FAR less well filmed than this great short.
I think you seriously need to start thinking about making a full length feature in the summer. If those douches that made that piece of rubbish know as "Blair Witch" can do it and succeed, then so can you!
