Check out the B C Rich used in the lead solos, you can see it better in the 2nd solo near the end. It's called the Perfect 10, and has 10 strings. You'll notice four tuning machines in the notch at the tail end. They are connected to strings running adjacent to the lower (in pitch) 4 strings and double an octave up in 12-string fashion.

There arei switches for coil tap and phase reverse in addition to all of the conventional controls. It has a 3-ply neck stock that runs all the way through.

It is based on the 1958 Danelectro Longhorn bass, which believe it or not is still in production.

Danelectro's kinda disappeared for awhile in the 1970's. In the mid 80's Hondo came out with a excellent copy of the longhorn (which truly was a longhorn in that it had 31 frets) and are very collectible.
