The static is because of Youtube =P they've been having some issues with the audio on a bunch of their videos. I believe they are trying to fix the problem right now, but until they do, we can only wait =/
for the blade I used old golf clubs, I just cut the end of them off so all that was left was the handle and the shaft. EXTREMELY durable, so far haven't even bent them and its been 2 years since I made them. Im not saying go spend 100 dollars on new clubs, but if you have old ones laying around that no one uses, it's a really good alternative to the other stuff i've seen used.
what you do is drill a hole in the hilt and paint a screw red and screw it in there for a good hold, plus the screw looks like a button now that its red.
if you are making a long movie and dont have enough money to make a whole bunch of these then just get a 3/4 of an inch by 10 foot pvc pipe at lowes for 1.18 and make 12 of them
Hmmm. The black pipe isn't as thick and strong as regular PVC, and/or probably not as sturdy or practical as a dowel. That, and I don't think they make those black pieces too long, but I could be mistaken.
I don't think they make pieces like that, they're all straight tops. You'd have to cut it yourself. If you have power tools available to you, a table saw or band saw are great. If not, you might just be able to use a regular saw to cut it.
i think you did pretty good but istead of the wood use PVC pipe and get a bright colored elctrical tape and cover the whole blade it take harder impact
I will agree with covering the whole blade. I've heard that if you cover a blade with duct tape, you can even get some cracks and it'll still go for a while longer. But I have to disagree about using PVC for the blade. Mainly because it is too heavy. It throws off the balance of the weapon and doesn't work well as a prop. If you want to do serious fighting, PVC won't work.
PVC pipe is the tubing most commonly used for sprinkler systems. It's a good lightweight white tubing, but works well for making movie props also, easily available at your local hardward store.
Randomsabers . com as I said, but I've heard it takes a while to ship. Carbonfibertubesshop . com seems like a good place. dragonplate . com seems to have them pretty cheap. But don't take my word for it. I'm just looking at basic websites and don't really know anything specific about them.
Also, be aware that if you use carbon fiber rods, it's probably a better idea to use screws to hold the blade in. You can find websites (like bigyellowbox . tripod . com) to help you with this.

Sweet video, but is there a piece that makes the top of the lightsaber at a 45 degree angle, or can you only cut part of the PVC pipe off?

I agree. I also heard that if you hit the PVC blade too hard, it will just shatter.

shawnkilledyou 3 years ago
alluminum rods i think are the best.. apart from carbon fiber but thats a bit expensive.. wood is cheap, but not strong enough for me =/
id find it annoying having to replace them all the time.. alluminum rods i think are the best.
thanks for this man
peace out

Not to bad, but it's a little bit to thin.

Yeah, they should have different thicknesses, though, especially if you get regular PVC.
