THats a sweet idea i just made 2 of them, tired of payin 12$ for 100 crickets so im attempting to breed my own. Do i take all the females out and leave them in my tank with the soil?
Yes it would be best, if you put the soil with all the mixed crickets (male/females) they will surely eat most of the eggs. I find it best when I separate the females, you are sure to have plenty of eggs and better result.
so whats the point of using the bottles...when u can just use a paper towel and put drops of water on it??instead of going through all that mess...theres really no difference rite?i mean u cant just fill the water bottle up and expect water to just flow when theres water need to be refilled to the paper towels..cuz once the waters on the towels thats all u really need rite?i just dont get it...maybe if u could explain it to me then im sure ima fill like an idiot haha...
At first thats what I did I tried paper towel only with water or a moist sponge. Because of the high temperature you will have to refill everyday and drowning pinheads will occur also.
I stopped using a sponge cause the crickets were eating it...if you think about it you wouldn't want your lizard to eat crickets filled with toxic sponge...well thats my thought...
they eat their poo on it

My feeder last for weeks...just refill bottle like 1/4 of water and replace towel time to time... that's about it...
I want to purchase a hamster water feeder..I don't know if the crickets would be smart enough to go and spin the ball in the tube?

what is the point in drilling the hole when the bottle is already open?

that will create the flow of the water..creating drip of water coming out of the 600 ml bottle. possible it work without having to do it...dunno

Hmm, good idea I might try this.
But even after the water is absorbed through the paper towels, won't it continue to seep through?
tarynator 4 years ago
no as long as you dont fill the water to the top...just 1/4 should be fine.
