BTW, people: I'm not saying this guy didn't ask for permission to film aboard the plane, but PLEASE ASK for permission before filming. Aircraft use radio NAV equipment for navigating approaches and cams can affect radios. They need to know so they can compensate. I'll give you a heads-up, however: don't bother asking on a United flight, their policy is "Strictly Forbidden at all times".

@SenorSpode Anything that TRANSMITS can have an effect on radio navaids, but a camcorder will never been an issue. However, requests to place items away before landing should be heeded, as anything that is not tied down on a rough landing/bumpy approach can turn into a missile, especially something handheld. I've never been on a plane where it lands in the air. That's incredible, they must have the world's highest jetway to get the passengers off.

Fay was not a hurricane, it was a tropical storm with max winds of 70 mph. Still impressive for a plane to land in a storm, but had Fay been a hurricane, the plane would have diverted to another airport.

I flew into OIA the day that Fay was going to hit, it was very turbulent the majority of the flight. The pilot kept us updated on Fay, and when he was changing altitude to make it as comfortable as he could. Overall, a very scary flight. But the flight crew that day on Southwest was awesome!

I flew into DFW last September through the outskirts of Hurricane Ike. It wasn't too bad, just some mild turbulence and rain. I had to connect there on the way to SAN from MSY. I had an earlier flight, but it was cancelled, due to Ike. So I had to call the airline for a later flight (which was cool because I landed in San Diego at night instead of the evening.)

they havent really found any proof of that the real reason is they dont want that 2-4 pound camera to become a projectile in a crash, and a camera wont affect anything anyway from a pilots standpoint the most we get from cell phones is that anoying buzzing sound in the headset the same sound you get if you hold your phone next to a speaker,

yeah they say that, due to the equipment . BUT, if you were to use a CD-Player.. It wont do anything to the planes navigation equipment or radios neither will a laptop etc The only thing a cell phone does is cause a little bit of static through the transponder and the EADI. but if people use cameras, cd players, .. those wont do anything. A cell phone is a diffrent story, Those can interfere with some of the instruments but wont cause a plane to go down.
