Here is one way to decrease industrialized nations, particularly Canada and U.S.A., from using so much fuel. First, as many people as possible should live in areas that are as close to where they work as they can find. In some places it may difficult for some people to find an adequate place to live that is close but for the majority it may not be that difficult. There would also be an economic spillover / stimulus in revitalizing decaying neighbourhoods.
