Hey, Mount St.Helens exploded in 1980 and the force of the explosion was so powerful trees were knocked down exactly like in the Tunguska incident of 1908. No supernatural bs, just the awesome power of mother nature.

Imagine the energy released from boiling water in a pot. Now imagine that the entire volume of water in that pot were to release it's energy all at once (instead of slowly boiling away). Then imagine that pot to be as big as a football field and under an extreme amount of pressure and...boom...you have a completely vaporized comet and one huge blast radius. (I just hope that "comet" wasn't actually the alien equivalent of "blue ice" like our passenger jet toilets produce...)

An explosion occurs, and indeed, you could be seduced to think water is burning, but it's just the enormous energy release, that does the trick. Imagine a bullet, shot from a gun, the barrel, aswell the bullet, as the place of impact get's heated. Although led doesn't burn either, it can set things on fire when it's hot.

@gary7999 Yes but water still doesn't burn.... . And the released kinetic energy, is far more than the burning of methane gas. Comets are only a small part methane. That is they don't contain enough methane for such an explosion. It's the mass x velocity, and the friction in the atmosphere that do the work. Gotcha!. Or maybe, better ; got it?
