As others have said its not the note itself thats all that impressive but its the sheer brute force that comes with it. I'd imagine most singers wouldn't be bold enough to put every bit of force into a note like that.

Also got to love John's face as well, even he seems impressed and he has seen it all!

You're right, there will never be anyone else like Freddie. Right now, I'd say the closest we have to a pretender to his throne is actually Tom Chaplin. Keane's album Perfect Symmetry features some great piano-backed harmonies almost certainly inspired to some extent by Queen, and their live performances are awesome. Tom's only human though: occasionally he has days when his voice isn't quite on top form. I don't think I've ever, EVER heard a weak Freddie Mercury vocal. He was incredible.

Freddie will never be beaten, but yes, he had his bad days in some live presentations. Try to find some Japanese tour here on youtube and you will get scared... its really poor! But of course it had a reason! Was his 7th concert in 7 days on that tour, and his throat was in really poor condition! But in his top shape I honestly doubt there will be one day someone better than him! And he was a complete showman.. not just a singer! ;) cheers!
