Romaji is a curse. That's one bad thing I see about this game already. It looks pretty neat though.

It does eventually switch to kana, once you "mastered" it in the game. If some people can't handle it you do have the option to switch back to romaji.

yeah, on some of the kanji the stroke order is off.

yeah i got it there is a dictionary and it gives you the japanese word for it. it also has a conversion list and gives you sentence's for you and one more thing lessons and games

Yes, this game actually do help. I myself is on lesson 9 and so far i been learning great japanese that is actually helping me out.

im at lesson 36 I believe and throughtout this game it gets very tough lol for me. I'm 23 years old and it has helped me A TON learning japanese

personally, i would learn kana first, before you get into the language, im am doin it hybrid, but if you know the language, kana comes fairly easily, because what i do, is just find random things to read, and work my way through it, with a kana sheet, and it just seems to stick, but kanji, thats a whole nother story, but i wouldnt worry too much about it, because most things consist of kana, and those that dont, are either the pure basics of kanji, and if not, they usually have furigana to help.

If you've been learning Japanese for a long time and I mean like a year or semester at a college. It's too easy. It gets hard around lesson 30 when they take out the romaji. I was annoyed for 19 lessons because everything was in romaji. The only thing I really learn from this is new kanji.

do they teach alot of kanji that you havent already learnt? I've done the beginners level of japanese at school so I know the basic things and a bit of kanji

Yeah, it teaches you Kanji. You need to know at least 1500-2000 kanji to be at least considered to be fluent. That's just writing alone. To answer anyone's question about the game. .... if you're a complete beginner it's good for you. After a certain lesson in the game it takes off the romaji. For the semi beginners/intermediate people it'll teach you kanji you don't know, but it will take a while.

There's over 100. I finished the game when it first came out. I was taking Japanese 1 at my school. I was solely using it for grammar. I had to play it w/o sounds. It was annoying hearing it after a while.

uhm... i don't really link its Kana.. isn't the first japanese alphabet called hiragana? then katakana and kanji...? forgive me if i'm wrong... but... seriously....

Yes you are right. Hiragana is what children learn first and then as they grow they learn Katakana and Kanji.

yeah, seems to me though, for my uses, which is reading japanese on like products(usually like model kits, and 'otaku toyz!') and for like product websites, katakana seems to help more, because most of this stuff isnt basic language, which is pretty much what hiragana is for, unless your using kanji, so unless i go to japan any time soon, im just gonna brush up my katakana

yeah, a fun way to learn katana and kanji

except I can remember the symbols and

the syllables until I have to do them on my

own in some of the games I can remem-

i have it and i learned a lot from it... i learned colors numbers phrases and how to write it and pronounce it.. i know that before i go to japan i will be frequent by the time i finish this game

Yes, there are kanji lessons. I haven't gotten there yet though. And seeing that the Reference section actually has pronunication of phrases and words written in kanji, I do believe the game will teach you the pronounce them too! :D

The DS and PSP certainly don't have region lock but I don't know of any handheld system that does. There might be though. I dunno.
