  • This is not a x-wind landing. It's a straight slip. These planes don't have air brakes or flaps, so the pilots induce drag to lose altitude while maintaining speed by dropping a wing while applying opposite rudder.

  • This is FORWARD SLIP. It is a way losing altitude during your approach to land where the aircraft's nose is pointing downwind of the runway centerline while the airplane is banked with the upwind wing down. In contrast, a SIDE SLIP is a cross controlled state where the nose is pointed in the same direction as the runway center line. Like the forward slip, the upwind wing is banked down. If a forward slip is used, one should convert to a side slip before touch down in a cross wind scenario.

  • isn't that when the push the rudder one way and the ailerons the other?

  • The trees are barely moving, no 30 knots there.

  • I think this is only interresting for Pilots or for people who play Flight Simulator xD

  • that wasnt a crosswind landing. that was cross controlling probably because he wanted to lose altitude quickly without gaining speed ie x-controlling increase drag. nicely executed tho.

  • thats called a slip landing...but You are right. Even the winds was high the slip was turned out to loose altitude without gaining speed. If it would have been a crosswind landing the flare would have shown much more activities of the rudders resulting in a slight bank during touchdown.

    Thx for the video

  • when you land an edge 540 the wing is in the middle and as its a tailwheel aircraft which makes you have a nose high attitude and the mid wing makes it almost impossible to see so we side slip them in order to see the air strip while coming into land. if it was a cross wind landing the rudder would be centered rather than having opposite rudder to aileron (cross controlling):)

  • nice:)

  • Thanks!

  • this wasn't a "crosswind landing" well it sort of its called side slipping

nice filming. can't till London red bull air race

  • crosswind enough

  • Cool, thats probably the case. But I heard there was a 30knot crosswind, and it sure was gusty!

  • @FlyByDanny that is a forward slip not a side slip
