  • Shes got a point though. Protein bars are quite expensive and don't taste the best and they are as hard as a brick! Even if they don't look appetizing making your own protein bars isn't such a bad idea. You also have the advantage of making your own different flavors and choosing what ingredients go in it.

  • whats the use of protein bars? its to get muscles or more energy for exercises? and when do u eat them? before, during or after exercises?

  • denasdoc: You can use these bars as either a meal replacement when you don't have time to grab real food or as a pre or post workout meal (though they are a little high in fat).

    Protein (and carbs) don't build muscles without exercising but are very important to the growth and rebuilding of muscles post-workout.

  • I been puttin green Stevia powder in mine with grated coconut . She doesnt mention what type of protein powder(whey,soy,egg...) Shell has some gorgouse guns on her, and yes ,a super cute lisp.

  • jojo, the protein powder I used was a whey combo (wpi/wpc) with 92% protein (musashi 92 to be exact)

Between the cost or protein powder and the nuts I'd use, I doubt they'll be any cheaper than the $1.99 I buy. So anyway, raw oats? I'd make real bars and bake them.

  • Good idea, but I would do more oatmeal so it doesn't look like poo. And it would be lower fat.

  • A benefit of having some fat in there (and we're already using reduced-fat PB) is that lipids (dietary fats) promote satiety (a feeling of fullness).

    Also, more Oatmeal and less PB won't really hold together. This is the proportion that Michelle has found to hold together best. YMMV.

  • Oh, yeah... and if you think this looks bad, the original recipe called for 1/2 cup of whole kernel corn!

  • i was down the supermarket checkin out the peanut butter, and the really cheap recuded fat generic brand had less fat and more protein than any on the shelf! props to supermarket own brands ;)
