The whole point in mmo's is upgrading gear so you have an advantage against others, if you don't want that you should play CoD and BF3. The best fun in WoW was killing people with better gear, and once you got good gear 1 hitting bad geared people.

The basic professions for new players are: Warrior, Elementalist, Ranger aaand... that's about it.

The advanced classes are: Guardian, Necromancer, Engineer, Thief and Mesmer.

"the rest of us" is a pretty broad term, I would have thought it's easier to do some research yourself on the official GW2 website instead of wasting someone else's time, but you're welcome, anyway.

@TheKainMan I've seen your vids. You seem mature and educated. Surprised this game is your thing. But then I thought about it (to be fair). I have a friend who plays a lot of the old school video games from the 80s (he buys the stand up machines). So I guess if that's your thing go for it. Just a damned shame there's nothing with contents for adults. Dark Age of Camelot had 44 classes, 20+ races and three realms. I was spoiled I guess.

@Chad01234 Secondly. When I see this stuff, I feel like I should input a quarter into my computer. MMORPGs are built on the "Guantlet" model (old coin fed game). There's nothing epic - races are cosmetic here, and everyone you fight is a mirror of someone on your side. That's not epic -that's copy paste. Frustrating this is the game to look forward to in 2012. Maybe next year.

@Chad01234 I see your concern there. And although the number of professions is small compared to other games, the way the skill system works offers a huge variety of gameplay choices, all of which can be effective. This also means that balance issues can be resolved quickly.

And, I guess the PvP aspect provides some entertainment for the more mature audience. I'll mostly be playing because the gameplay mechanic, not the graphics or content, because it reminds me of EVE with it's sandbox feel.

@TheKainMan SOmetimes I feel like it's just too much to ask to have an mmorpg where the enemy I face in a pvp environment is somehow different from me. I don't mean like sith v human (as in SW:ToR), I mean some real variation. A developer in Dawntide told me that races never matter in mmorpgs. I replied that only developers tell players this. Thre's a definite difference between an Uruk'hai and a Sylvan Elf. It's up to developers to just work a bit harder.

Even in SWToR most of the light side/dark side skills are mirrored in terms of effects.

Because of the new skill mechanic, it will all come down to playstyle in PvP and PvE. Again, this reminds me of EVE (it's PvP is unmatched). You create yourself a build, learn it, then apply it to different situations.

In terms of races... you have 4/5 chances of encountering a different race in the PvP server.

@malutki5200 Because they want the game to be balanced for competitive play, which is awesome. PvP should be determined by skill, not by items. If you want to gain advantage against others by having better gear I suggest you play WoW.

@malutki5200 This game's PvP requires skill; you won't have advantage over other players just because you have played longer than them. But of course, the longer you play, the better player you become yourself. Also in World PvP, a level 1 character has a chance to beat a level 80 players, if he's a fantastic player. Lower level characters will be upscaled to lvl 80, but they still have worse armor and less skills to use. This is called balance, and every game needs to be balanced.

Honestly, if you're a gamer who enjoys lore and continuity I might suggest picking up the Original GW and it's expansions, but I also think that only the most dedicated GW fans would gain anything worthwhile by doing so. GW 1 is a good game, but its age and limitations grow more obvious each time Anet releases any footage.

@TheOmnipotentSlayer well you do not have an advantage but here´s why you could: there are places and histories in gw1 which have been taken over to gw2 like cities and such.. that´s a gr8 feeling to see those cities in gw2..and also there is the hall of monuments. you can earn weapons from gw1 which you can use in gw2.. no advantage at all but looks very good.

I am part of the latter category, and i can say that i had lots of fun with the game. The best idea would be to try out the trial. I hope the rpg/storyline aspect of GW2 is something similar to that of Oblivion. In GW1, it seemed somewhat elbowy, linear, forced, and static. I'm hopeful tho.

@SingerinEX I'm pretty certain you'd be able to handle it as the developers of Gw2 are trying to lower the pc requirements as much as possible for it to be played on a wide spectrum of gaming computers. They're not trying to make this game crazy with specs as they want the masses to be able to play it.

Although it is unclear at this point as to what the exact requirements will even be, as they haven't released that info yet.

However either way is untrue as any and all mmo communities are filled with immature & mature adults, kids, nerds, etc. It's the internet after all, and it's available to the whole world which is comprised of all kinds of people. No single game community is safe from wrongdoing, and anyone that thinks otherwise is living in a dream world (which I'd like to move in to).

The good thing though is that Gw2 encourages friendly play & teamwork.

@OutofControl41 WvsWvsW. Worlds are the servers. It's three servers pitted against each other that get cycled out. They each start with their own fortress and they try to control the mid contested area to boost their fortress and if possible push into other servers territories. It is somewhat like a huge bg but it goes on for weeks, in a huge map.

MMo used to have monthly fees because internet server hosting was expensive back than. The reason they keep asking it today is because people are still willing to pay them. They don't actually need it.
