This game was definitely underated. The game itself, for me is not as good as the four previous games, but the story and the characters, specially Alex are well constructed and their relationship are fairly tense, deceiving, and exciting at the same time and he is one of my favorite main characters (nobody will ever beat Harry going through hell to find his daugther, and he's not sinner like most of other main characters).
Compared to past Silent Hill games I started homecoming in a negative light but by the time of the plot twist I was blown away at how obvious it was and yet it made the game that much better.
@wccdogg exactly, at one point its your hell but then you slowly realize that for you, its home. for me, either silent hill or lady gaga could heal me and thats what they did. i have life now, but id rather go back to the way it once was then the way it is now. i will never have some one to hold in my arms, let them know i love them, but i will make it through.

@ThreeFrotheFuzzy ive been through 2 relation ships that didnt exactly work out. 1 got banned and just refused to go onto a thing we both were on and the other strives for world conquest. My great grand mother passes away on me after 12 years of hard labourous work. i waited on her hand and foot and she dies on me. I pass away 3 seconds and the next second everythings back to normal as if nothing happens. im loosing my friends left and right because they move or die on me! you think its .....

Alex and James are my favorite Silent Hill characters!
Both in complete denial of the crimes they've commited, looking for their loved ones in an insane world.
Also both have awesome representations of Pyramid Head.
James uses Pyramid Head as a means to punish himself, and also to relieve his frustration and pent up sexual desires.
While Alex is the opposite and uses Pyramid Head as a weapon of judgement and vengeance, a physical manifestation of his hatred for the parents who neglected him..
@ImagelessOverdive I wish that I was as optimistic as SH: Homecoming's use of Pyramid Heads. While he was used well, I think that he only belonged in James story. Besides, I can't help but think that they just threw him in for the fans than the story. And that's this series biggest problems. More of a focus on what the fans want than what the games call for.
@Slide2671 i think he was put in the game as the punisher of alexs father , because he felt guilt, he did not attack alex,because at the part of the game when alex first sees him , he had no guilt , he was just looking for his brother
@rollerfan222 But I don't think they should be re-using monsters for the games. Each game should have its own unique monsters, and it was to much of a risk with Pyramid Head. I hope that they dont bring him back for Downpour.
@thewyrmsrevenge Yeah James felt sexually frustrated because Mary was always sick and bed ridden, it's explained in the game, also some of the creatures represent it; such as the nurses and the pyramid head apartment scene lol
I don't think it's weird, if anything it makes him seem more human and real, one of the reasons i love the Silent hill series is because it's not afraid to adress the dark hidden impulses of the human psyche.

@ImagelessOverdive YES EXACTLY!! Alex and James are my favorite characters as well! I love how emotionally driven they were and how both ended up with the mental manifestations that haunted their real existence. Homecoming, Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3 are my favorite Silent Hills just because of how much they made me actually CARE for the characters and how they made me shed a lot of tears lol :P just thought i should share....
@XResistance075 I know that most people hated Homecoming, and i'll admit it did feel sort of different from the previous games, but it makes up for it with great music and an awesome main character who (unlike most game protagonists) has multiple dimensions to his psyche and you can actually feel all his emotions and struggles throughout the game.
One thing i didn't like about Silent hill 3 & 4 was that Henry and Heather never really expressed much emotion or mental struggle...
@SoulessRival13 the only reason people hate the games after SH 3 is because that was when Japan decided we needed to make our own games and sold SH to america, and everyone is pitching a bitch fit over it.
Honestly, when I first played the game, I didn't really notice the difference all that much.
The hatred for it is blown way out of proportion and people are hating for stupid reasons. The games are all still amazing.
@HatterMRULEZ You are the first SH Fan who makes the best sense of logic on the US SH games. The US SH games made me jump and spooked me out just as much as when Team Silent used to make them. I really dislike how everyone downgrades Homecoming and recently Downpour.
Though the only thing I hate that Konami did was what they did to the original SH2 Voice Cast.
@ImagelessOverdive It's actually the children who use Bogeyman to exact their revenge on their parents. In fairy tales, The Bogeyman is a creature who takes bad children to Hell. The children's parents were "bad", and they conjured it up to take them to Hell.
That's why, in the scene when Alex meets it in the Hotel, it looks at Alex and simply walks away. He's not a target.
The Otherworld isn't created from Alex, it's created from the children. Alex is simply an observer, much like Henry.
@SoulessRival13 Alex was going to be sacrificed, but as he wasn't, he has no control over the Otherworld that is engulfing Shepherd's Glenn and Silent Hill. The children are behind it.
The father may not have sacrifced Josh, but Josh has become well aware that he was planning on killing Alex. Who could love a father that was willing to kill your brother, who you love dearly?
As for the Bogeyman, it's true it only killed Adam. But you see it in the Hotel, hear it in Hell's Descent (cont.)
@SoulessRival13 and you can see an Order soldier impaled with his Great Knife in the prison, showing that it was there. It was searching for Mayor Bartlett, Dr.Finch and Judge Holloway - they just died before it could reach them.
You need to remember that Pyramid Head and Bogeyman, despite both being based off the Executioners of old, are NOT the same monster.
Alex was attacked by Amnion because Alex needed to face and deal with Josh's death so he can move on. No more running from it, Alex.
*Pyramid head has always been a representation of the main characters dark hidden feelings, desires, frustrations and guilt in previous series, all still alive btw.
*Alex becomes a bogeyman in one ending, probable that it represents all his hate and vengeance as what he has become.
*And finally if the bogeyman was driven by the children, then why not attack Alex?, remember Josh resented and tried to kill Alex as a final boss, and also ran away from him the whole game
@xXTheCrunchXx the clocks stoped at 2:03 because it was the time Joshua died i Alexs room in the phyc was room 206 it also mentions at the beginging of the game in an artical in the park that there was a murderer who killed 8 children who was exercuted at 2:06 he was member of the order. So that might also be linked to the time the clocks stoppeed
Don't you just hate it when you walk out of the doctors office into a narrow hallway, with 10% health, no health drinks, no medical packs, no serums, no pistol ammo, no shotgun ammo, no save points availble in that area, with one rusty pipe up against 8 demonic nurses blocking the one and only exit with fucking scarples -.-
I am at the moment playing homecoming, i like it but it just pissed me off because i found it so hard ? don't know if im just shit at games like that or if it is just really hard, so i just looked at the plot to find out what happened at the end, i kinda had already gussed about the scarfices and stuff never expected Alex not to be a solider tho i think it is a great story though.
SH:H was one of the best Games ive ever played. The Story was creepy and dark, i like Games like SH:H :)
As im beginnig to play, i didnt understand why every clock was stopped at 2:03 but as im seeing what happend to Josh, and then cames the Scene with the Watch on the Hand of Alex' Dad, i understand and say; oh shit, its late man, time to kill some Schism's. xD
@Black92Wings2:06(am) is the time when Alex had the mental breakdown. When, in his mind, he began creating his "heroic soldier" persona with the task to "save his brother". People think its the time when Josh died, but clearly he would've been dead for a good while by the time his Dad went out to retrieve him. And as for 206 being Alex's room number - that's only in one of the optional endings, and not always the case.
I started playing Homecoming for the first time today. I got up at 8 in the morning and played till 9 P.M. NONSTOP..im in love with this game! I just fixed the power thingies in The Order's hideout place...I HAD to give my ears eyes and brain a BREAK! Suprisingly I love the puzzels-thought id find them annoying but NO! and BTW P.H. is WAY hotter in Homecoming!!!...just sayin...I gotta get my rest....I don't want to be up all night fightin demons!!! @LilBenki I couldn't beat the game, because I got scared shitless by the way that the outdoors in the backyard sounds. In Alex's backyard, and I did get to the part where you fight the smoke shooter on my original account. And you are correct, the game, even in the start doesn't let down one time... unless you hide and FEAR as FEAR = Fuck Everything and Run.
@SilverTheHedgehogZ12 My first week of owning the game i played at midnight and we have a 1hr auto air freshener. Every time it goes off it I jump haha. It's less scary if u face fear and get the lazer gun. Dont shoot mother, dont forgive the father, and save the cop. but the Siam(Man and woman giant thing) and the scisms(axe heads) kept me at bay for a week lolz.
So, like I said before, the Order destroys the horror and story with each game. Don't put a human face on a monster! That's retarded! And anyway, it's just getting old now with the Order. If the developers have to use a human enemy, why don't they just use something else? The main enemy in Silent Hill was James, and that was scary and interesting. In 3, the main enemy was The Order. That was just retarded. 4 got the story right with Walter's character though.

While there were some problems with the symbolism and the characters, I still think that Homecoming's story was the best in the series. 2's had the best story, hands down, and 4 had the most interesting story. 1 and 3 had way too much of that stupid cult shit for me to be interested, and Origins was just retarded.
I think that next to Sunderland, Shepard is one of the best characters in the series.

To appease a cult god. Without any indication of the Order, there wouldn't be any Silent Hill games. It was their power, through Alessa, that created these monstrous ideas, symbolism and other ideas that people associate with Silent Hill. They are the foundation of Silent Hill.

Look at silent hill 2 like you say. Was it great? It was. Did it have the order? No. See the similarities? Silent Hill had to have a reason, so we found it all out in Silent Hill 1. Skip to silent hill 3, we see it pretty much end. Silent Hill 4 involved another used by the order. Silent Hill: Homecoming just had the order for the hell of it I think.
@TheBravethunder I dunno, I think the order was expanded on in Homecoming. Hell, it showed how desperate the order were to keep the religion and the families' hierarchy alive, even with the craziness going on.
SH:H was pretty good. The only thing, though, that ruined this game was the Shepard family emblem puzzle in the attic of Alex's house. That puzzle almost made me want to get in my car and crash it into a crowded mall. I mean, I can do those sliding block puzzles when all the pieces are squares and the same size, but giving us those long and tall blocks... I just will never forgive the team that made that game for being such assholes and forcing people to go through that stupid shit.
@Oldenheimer1913 i feel your pain. i admit it is was frustrating. the first time i tried it, i was just moving pieces around without the greater picture in mind. spent over an hour failing. lol. the next time i played homecoming i cracked the puzzle np. just gotta make wiggle room at the bottom. when it comes down to it, you can do it in less than 20 moves. it's practically done already. it's just 3 of the smallest pieces (at the bottom) that have to be arranged a certain way.

i think homecoming was great but more of a side story, and just a bonus rather than whole story for the true die hard fans like my self. deep story, great compositions, good gameplay, its all the things that you would expect from an silent hill game, but rather a story telling about the remnants of the order and people connected to silent hill, so overall what im saying, dont hate its a great game you just got to examine it and the theme. definitley a buy. later peeps =)

Just got my copy of this game 2 days ago (first SH game for me), and I'm already hooked! The one thing I hate about it, though, is I get so depressed playing it. I feel so friggin' sorry for Alex...

This Silent Hill, for me, had the best storyline and the best characters.
You couldn`t help but love and feel pity for Alex, and hate Joshua up until that moment where it all unfolds.
It`s such a clever game too, how the monsters represent Alex`s pain and anguish.
Perfect horror, and intelligent. This is my favourite Silent Hill.
And let`s not forget the ambient, awesome music! :D

@ImagelessOverdive I wish that I was as optimistic as SH: Homecoming's use of Pyramid Heads. While he was used well, I think that he only belonged in James story. Besides, I can't help but think that they just threw him in for the fans than the story. And that's this series biggest problems. More of a focus on what the fans want than what the games call for.

@thewyrmsrevenge Yeah James felt sexually frustrated because Mary was always sick and bed ridden, it's explained in the game, also some of the creatures represent it; such as the nurses and the pyramid head apartment scene lol
I don't think it's weird, if anything it makes him seem more human and real, one of the reasons i love the Silent hill series is because it's not afraid to adress the dark hidden impulses of the human psyche.

I love how emotionally driven they were and how both ended up with the mental manifestations that haunted their real existence. Homecoming, Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3 are my favorite Silent Hills just because of how much they made me actually CARE for the characters and how they made me shed a lot of tears lol :P just thought i should share....

@XResistance075 I know that most people hated Homecoming, and i'll admit it did feel sort of different from the previous games, but it makes up for it with great music and an awesome main character who (unlike most game protagonists) has multiple dimensions to his psyche and you can actually feel all his emotions and struggles throughout the game.
One thing i didn't like about Silent hill 3 & 4 was that Henry and Heather never really expressed much emotion or mental struggle...

Honestly, when I first played the game, I didn't really notice the difference all that much.

@ImagelessOverdive It's actually the children who use Bogeyman to exact their revenge on their parents. In fairy tales, The Bogeyman is a creature who takes bad children to Hell. The children's parents were "bad", and they conjured it up to take them to Hell.
That's why, in the scene when Alex meets it in the Hotel, it looks at Alex and simply walks away. He's not a target.
The Otherworld isn't created from Alex, it's created from the children. Alex is simply an observer, much like Henry.

Also that's a good theory and goes along with the real bogeyman story, but it doesn't really fit with this pyramid head, here is why:
*Josh never resented his father like Alex did, and the father never sacrificed Josh.
*The bogeyman only attacked the father, not the rest of the parents, the deformed children took revenge themselves.

@SoulessRival13 Alex was going to be sacrificed, but as he wasn't, he has no control over the Otherworld that is engulfing Shepherd's Glenn and Silent Hill. The children are behind it.
The father may not have sacrifced Josh, but Josh has become well aware that he was planning on killing Alex. Who could love a father that was willing to kill your brother, who you love dearly?
As for the Bogeyman, it's true it only killed Adam. But you see it in the Hotel, hear it in Hell's Descent (cont.)

@SoulessRival13 and you can see an Order soldier impaled with his Great Knife in the prison, showing that it was there. It was searching for Mayor Bartlett, Dr.Finch and Judge Holloway - they just died before it could reach them.
You need to remember that Pyramid Head and Bogeyman, despite both being based off the Executioners of old, are NOT the same monster.
Alex was attacked by Amnion because Alex needed to face and deal with Josh's death so he can move on. No more running from it, Alex.

*Pyramid head has always been a representation of the main characters dark hidden feelings, desires, frustrations and guilt in previous series, all still alive btw.
*Alex becomes a bogeyman in one ending, probable that it represents all his hate and vengeance as what he has become.
*And finally if the bogeyman was driven by the children, then why not attack Alex?, remember Josh resented and tried to kill Alex as a final boss, and also ran away from him the whole game

@xXTheCrunchXx the clocks stoped at 2:03 because it was the time Joshua died i Alexs room in the phyc was room 206 it also mentions at the beginging of the game in an artical in the park that there was a murderer who killed 8 children who was exercuted at 2:06 he was member of the order. @Black92Wings 2:06(am) is the time when Alex had the mental breakdown. When, in his mind, he began creating his "heroic soldier" persona with the task to "save his brother". People think its the time when Josh died, but clearly he would've been dead for a good while by the time his Dad went out to retrieve him. And as for 206 being Alex's room number - that's only in one of the optional endings, and not always the case.

I started playing Homecoming for the first time today. I got up at 8 in the morning and played till 9 P.M. NONSTOP..im in love with this game! I just fixed the power thingies in The Order's hideout place...I HAD to give my ears eyes and brain a BREAK! Suprisingly I love the puzzels-thought id find them annoying but NO! and BTW P.H. is WAY hotter in Homecoming!!!...just sayin...I gotta get my rest....I don't want to be up all night fightin demons!!! In Alex's backyard, and I did get to the part where you fight the smoke shooter on my original account. And you are correct, the game, even in the start doesn't let down one time... unless you hide and FEAR as FEAR = Fuck Everything and Run.

It's less scary if u face fear and get the lazer gun. Dont shoot mother, dont forgive the father, and save the cop. but the Siam(Man and woman giant thing) and the scisms(axe heads) kept me at bay for a week lolz.

So, like I said before, the Order destroys the horror and story with each game. Don't put a human face on a monster! That's retarded! And anyway, it's just getting old now with the Order. If the developers have to use a human enemy, why don't they just use something else? The main enemy in Silent Hill was James, and that was scary and interesting. In 3, the main enemy was The Order. That was just retarded. 4 got the story right with Walter's character though.

While there were some problems with the symbolism and the characters, I still think that Homecoming's story was the best in the series. 2's had the best story, hands down, and 4 had the most interesting story. 1 and 3 had way too much of that stupid cult shit for me to be interested, and Origins was just retarded.
I think that next to Sunderland, Shepard is one of the best characters in the series.

To appease a cult god. Without any indication of the Order, there wouldn't be any Silent Hill games. It was their power, through Alessa, that created these monstrous ideas, symbolism and other ideas that people associate with Silent Hill. They are the foundation of Silent Hill.

And this stupid Order shit has been ruining the series if you ask me. A monster becomes less scary once you put reason or a human face on it. If I remember correctly, there was almost no Order in Silent Hill 2. And that was the scariest game of them all.

Look at silent hill 2 like you say. Was it great? It was. Did it have the order? No. See the similarities? Silent Hill had to have a reason, so we found it all out in Silent Hill 1. Skip to silent hill 3, we see it pretty much end. Silent Hill 4 involved another used by the order. Silent Hill: Homecoming just had the order for the hell of it I think.

SH:H was pretty good. The only thing, though, that ruined this game was the Shepard family emblem puzzle in the attic of Alex's house. That puzzle almost made me want to get in my car and crash it into a crowded mall. I mean, I can do those sliding block puzzles when all the pieces are squares and the same size, but giving us those long and tall blocks... I just will never forgive the team that made that game for being such assholes and forcing people to go through that stupid shit.

@Oldenheimer1913 i feel your pain. i admit it is was frustrating. the first time i tried it, i was just moving pieces around without the greater picture in mind. spent over an hour failing. lol. the next time i played homecoming i cracked the puzzle np. just gotta make wiggle room at the bottom. when it comes down to it, you can do it in less than 20 moves. it's practically done already. it's just 3 of the smallest pieces (at the bottom) that have to be arranged a certain way.

i think homecoming was great but more of a side story, and just a bonus rather than whole story for the true die hard fans like my self. deep story, great compositions, good gameplay, its all the things that you would expect from an silent hill game, but rather a story telling about the remnants of the order and people connected to silent hill, so overall what im saying, dont hate its a great game you just got to examine it and the theme. definitley a buy. later peeps =)
