@MSTS1 very well done i do like your choice of soft back ground music, Many times ( lately ) had wished incite and forethought in my photography.
My general interest in Framingham railroad interlocking and Freight office i had forethought to photograph the building built in 1850's or 60's i had an idea it was not long for this world ,,and i was right in dec 1980 it burned. glad i got all sides of that building photographed. wish i had the same premonition of Jordan Marsh Shoppers world and
@ptz593443x - Thanks for that. Yes, I always try to use music in my movies that compliment rather than distract from what you're watching. It might be true that some ppl would have liked to have gotten photo shots of certain places, but didn't really want to be seen in public shooting them, so they never did, though I never let that stop me. But in ref. to this movie, besides the few photos I did use, most of what I did here is illustrated and animated. Then, reference-photography and memory.
Natick Mall, speen st at rte 9 before they sunk rte 9 , the Natick bike shop , sorry... i could go on with the losses its depressing. so many neat things i can remember of childhood are gone
if progress means to lose history. i am not interested. the Natick collections Natick mall is a pompous Stye.
Where do i start..My brother told me of your site we both grew up in the 60's and 70's in Natick. we remember White fuel animated sign the esso sign and the Coca Cola sign where double tree hotel in Allston is now . The naked i sign combat zone. Natick and Framingham had some neat signs as well.
thank you for your wonderful movie ill tell my sisters ..nice memories Mamoth mart was cool. but so glad you have ch 38 tower sign nice touch. again thanks for sparking good memories.
@ptz593443x -Nice of you to say so, thank you. I always appreciate it when viewers like my original work. Mammoth Mart is a fixture in my memory from '72-'73, but the store didn't survive too long..
I shot the photo of the TV-38 tower in Brighton around 4am while driving by in the summer of '87.
The Coke Plant I remember well. Corner of Cambridge St./Mass Pike, and Soldiers Field Rd.,>River St. Bridge connecting Allston to Cambridge. There is scandal attached to the destruction of that sign...
Very well done, lived in Boston in the early 80s and this brings back great memories. Would love to see one of the Father's bar signs (how about all five!), and how about the Metropoliton Storage Warehouse?
0:24 was the old (original) John Hancock Building, which is next to the 1969 John Hancock Tower. The image at 2:18 is the Schrafft's office building in Charlestown, formerly a candy and chocolates factory.
That could be seen from the Southeast Expressway, as it was just off of Morrisey Boulevard in Dorchester. It looked like a giant log with an axe in it. That place was there a long time. It was a neat sign.
Well done!! Have relatives in Stoughton. I remember visiting from Canada as a small child. With its proximity to Boston, my uncle would show my father and I around Boston. Warm memories. THANK YOU!!
I was born, raised and still live in the Boston area. So many of these signs and logos have a real meaning behind them for me - my Dad used to take my brothers and I to Paragon Park, my great-grandmother worked for Kings, etc. The music you used was an awesome touch, as was the snow. Thank you!
Expertly put together, and great haunting musical composition accompanying it. Memories, visuals and sign sights that you'd never recall that you had forgotten! Thanks.
Well, they still use the "Interstate" font. The signs do use that font, and yes, what they put on interstate signs are a special font. In fact, WBZ uses the "Interstate" font.
Awesome Signs and Wonders. BTW: Thanks for zapping the Killer Bees. LIZ

All that's missing from WCVB's studio is Ed Harding, Dick Albert and Mike Lynch in the window, laughing it up over eggnog on Christmas Eve.

The Weather Channel also uses the "Interstate" font during Local on the 8's.
mediadude08 3 years ago
The Weather Channel specifically uses the Interstate font for their IntelliStar LF system.
chyrongeek 3 years ago
Thanks, but I'm wondering about why you didn't use the Interstate font for the "ENTERING BOSTON" sign.

I never knew what the Schrafft's Building was for, other than a clock tower in Charlestown/Sommerville by 93.
