The chocolate mousse lady and her beau walked in right before Eunice and them, yet they are already on dessert by the time the rest get their salad. What fast eaters they must be! LOL!
...and awwayyyyyy we go! remember that one? God I miss those days. As a former member of the Mickey Mouse Club, and truly I was, I would like to say a big hello to all my fellow club members! You know what would be great if all of us former members got together on one site and said Hey. I grew up in such an iconic time. All the best of the past. I used to tell my co workers if something was lame that being a former member of the Mickey Mouse Club gave me certain insight . Not so, it was fun.
I often wondered if my memories were faulty or if I were just partial to the things of my own time, thinking that music, movies and television were way better back when I was a kid. Comparing the state of things nowadays, I have to say, it was not my imagination, I am not prejudice, everything really was better, and I miss those days. I wish with all my heart I could go back to those wonderful years, when funny was really funny, and it didn't involve a whole lot of expletives to make a point.
@pjgumby Amen; my 17 yr old son always ask me why I watch all the old shows... Need I say more....kids 2day will have nothing good to look back on...
@pjgumby: We may be partial to tv from back then, but when you look at what's popular now (Jersey Shore, e.g), it makes you harken back to the days of people with REAL talent providing real entertainment.
@honeycone71 You are so right honeycone71 and 82CARVER, this is such good comedy, and my parents didn't have to worry what we watched on television. It's sort ironic that with cable I have hundreds of channels to view and I keep seeking out the classics. I do like some of the newer ones like Everybody likes Raymond, of course MASH is great, but even these pale in relation to the old greats. I remember humor, it used to be so funny!
Yes, TV used to be good..............it's a shame they have just that reality crap these days. I guess it's cheaper, you don't have to pay real actors.
OMG Family can be so scarry, This is "too" much like reality when it comes to my family, only THIS is funny, can't see the humor in mine LOL!! One Word when i absolutely have to put up with it and that HOLIDAYS! gotta tell ya, don't look forward to em.
@atlasshrugged2u I feel for you. As a kid in the 1970s, I used to watch syndicated reruns of this, and while I LOVED the Carol Burnett show, I never really could enjoy these "The Family" sketches because Eunice resembled my own mother way too much. When Eunice yells and/or scrunches up her face in anger, I'm seeing & hearing an exact replica of my own mother. Its just too painful. Holidays indeed seemed to bring out the worst in her. I cant recall a Thanksgiving that didnt include yelling.
@classicphile Wow, I could imagine it would be painful. Hey, you know it reminds me of the "symbol" for comedy ...(the masks) the "faces of comedy and tradgedy" I mean even though these skits of Enice and Mama and Ed were funny, there was a "tragic sense" to it as well, and that's what made the show IMO
Hey check out the movie "Home For The Holidays" starring Holly Hunter and Robert Downey Jr. talk about dysfuncrtional! but it was good...
It let's us see that wer'e not the only ones (smile)
I was curious- looked up "pink lady".. it's made with gin, grenadine, an egg white, beaten, to make it foamy.. poor Eunice- didn't even get a chance to enjoy it, thanks to Ed and Mama!
Well, the reason why they couldn't enjoy their meal was because Eunice was making a scene with Mama and Ed. It drove the other customers crazy taht they complained and were evicted from the restaurant.
@Matto2t ----- true..... but I always feel badly for Eunice, b/c she never realizes that SHE'S the one with the problem-- not the whole rest of the world!
I have to identify with Mama. The old timers were tight with their money and knew when they were being ripped off and were being over-charged and didn't stand for it. Whereas today we throw money away.
As with many popular drinks of the 70's a Pink Lady is made with cream. As was a Grasshopper, a Brown Cow and a White Russian. They were all the rage in the mid to late 70's.
My friend's grandmother used to steal stuff from the Luau, a Polynesian restaurant, and we never thought much about it, a salt and pepper shaker here, a plate there, but one day she brought it all out and the had a complete service for twelve, dinner plates, butter plates, salad plates, plastic coconut shells, several tiki lamps, condiment containers and silverware, we were so shocked we couldn't even speak.
My Mom used to steal all the plastic forks etc from Long John Silvers to take to our family reunions. She said it was heavy duty and"you can't buy it in the stores. All they sell is that flimsy junk".I don't know if the relatives ever noticed, but we all knew.
Love it! I feel sorry for kids growing up today. All they pretty much have to watch on tv now is reality shows. I remember watching Carol Burnett as a kid with my Mom. We never laughed so much!
How fun this must've been for Harvey, Carol and Vicki to do.
I would love to have been able to visit this restaurant while they were filming this.
