I haven't flown in 8 years. Between intrusive security checks, rude and borderline psychotic passengers, rising flight prices, mechanical issues with planes etc etc. i just don't feel safe taking my family on board one of these tin cans.
The way i avoided issues with flight attendants is that i never called them for anything. i brought my own pillow/blanket, food and drink (water). I never got up from my seat while they were serving. Jesus i hated flying- hence the reason i don't do it anymore.
I had so many bad experiences on flights since Sept. 11 2001 that i don't fly anymore. Last time was in 2004 when i was bringing home our adopted son from eastern europe. Suffice to say that i almost dropped my son down a flight of stairs thanks to rude passengers pushing by me and German flight attendants that refused to help when they saw what was going on. My solution was simple--i dropped (ahem-THREW) the baby seat and two bags of luggage down the stairs-that got their attention.
When I go to brief the exit row customers (of course usually 2 or 3 are texting or talking... I just politely say "Hey everyone, Just want to say hi, and have your attention for a few minutes....This is my time to shine (in a funny way) so all eyes on me! They usually laugh, smile and put the phone down or even hang up because they were so caught off guard by my smile. I find if you just talk to them like a person, instead of a robot, you get a lot further. Bees go to honey before vinager:)
I was with TWA for 35 years and after TW folded, I went to Alaska Air. I retired in 2009. So with this video, been there done that, survived, got the t shirt and retirement and moved on!! :)
I can relate, I've only been a FA for two years. Reserve is killing me and that makes the actual job harder. People are mean and rude for NO reason. I could go on and on but at the end of the day I have a job. People think we are puppets and that they can say and do whatever they want.
i will give it a try on mine next flight to Tel Avive...... i think they would not realy enjoy it. but what you are saying looks verry finilair....klm crew
Oh my gosh this guy is so funny. This is so true and, by the way, WELL SAID AMERICAN! No marketing department can keep the customer coming back the way that WE can!
It was just over the top enough to where it was funny, but at the same time it was informative as to how flight attendants can better serve the customers without going on a psychotic meltdown and escaping the plane via the escape access.
Lame, SkySteward -- using the Steven Slater case as a hook for pimping your four-year-old company video. You lose stars just for shamelessness.
And re: the video itself: it was great fun, right up until the sudden switch to absolute sincerity. You could have communicated your message much more effectively if you'd maintained the satiric tone, a la GLEE.
BTW, from now on, I'm going to be paranoid that flight attendants are pulling the fly-by on me.
@papatoony Meant to be funny, released at the single worst possible time for it ever be considered so, or even by ANY measure at all humorous, in the wake of the (I believe, planned and totally phonied up), "DivaSteve" Slater phony "meltdown for moola" scam.
Ah, fantastic! Anyone that makes a rude comment about this video will be those type of passengers that no one wants to ever be around in any circumstances. First class flights equates with first class passengers with first class manners and I don't mean setting in first class sections. I,too, don't understand why passengers are so very needy. Oh- thanks to all flight attendants that make my flight as safe as possible. You don't have an easy job dealing with so many personalities. Have fun !
omg this video is fantastic! the two second rule,... the fly by :) I'd love to be on your flight. I'll never understand why people are so needy on a flight! Clearly no one can go an hour or two without a drink, a bathroom trip, a snack, a blanket, a pillow, booze, a cell phone, child care assistance. Dang, take a nap!
I just want to thank you for your video response. I love the way you present your story in a humorous, but very truthful and honest way, showing how great the stress and pressure can be in an increasingly demanding work environment, where one feels caught in the middle between the company and the customer. I admire you for being so candid. Love ya, Beth xoxo
Oh and by the way GREAT VIDEO. I feel for you and all other flight attendants.
