  • i agree that drifting is a waste. the tires are screeching and your car is going sideways, i like watching cars power up to 200 mph plus in a mile or formula one cars going that fast in every straight then braking down for a corner extremely fast and almost ripping the drivers head off. drifting just isn't worth talking about when you're an engineer, only for the ricers.

  • So there is replacement for displacement after all. Where did you get those stats anyway? It depends on the volume of the engine and the amount of boost, not just the amount of boost.

  • As much as there is a point saying there is a replacement for dislpacement, and i do agree, it can be replaced, But i am a big block kinda guy, and if you can use a turbo, then so can we ;) turbo a 502, and that equals a merry christmas ;)

  • Well, of course you have more potential for power, I'm just saying, they need to stop dissing turbos because their engines are twice as big. Did you know that Modified Mag got a 2005 WRX STi to over 420 ft/lbs of torque, just with a cold air intake, headers, boost controller, and a tune? For less than 2 grand, it smokes a C6 Z06. Japanese cars are just fine. They're no better and no worse than American ones.

  • For the most part. The only thing i have a major problem with is the drivetrain for the majority of japanees sport cars. The americans who outsource are starting to do the same. But there is no substitute for RWD

  • Most performance imports are either RWD or 4WD. The 4WD ones are meant for rally, the STi and the EVO. The RWD ones are meant for street performance, : 350Z, Supra, G35, S2000, NSX, 300ZX, S15, I could go on and on. Also, there's a lot of new things happening in the Japanese automotive world, like the upcoming new NSX, new Supra, LF-A, GS-F, all will have over 500 horses.

  • Well i guess a big problem about this discussion, is i cant afford a 50K car. Mustangs provide a brand new car, and platform for a project. Also, the appeal of american cars such as vipers and the z06 are not so much the performance, as the rare occurences of a car. I dont look twice at a 350Z, supra, definetly not g35, nsx, or s2000, i see them way to often for me to even care.

  • Most of those cars aren't 50 grand, and most ofthem are just as fast as stock Mustangs. The Mustang may beat them at the drag strip by a little bit, but at the track the 350Z, 300ZX, S15, S2000, NSX, Supra, and others are definitely the way to go. The main problem is that most Americans only drag race, which is about all their cars are really good for, so they think their cars are the best, even though they're not.

  • Yeah, we'vwe all heard it, you beat one last weekend. Mustangs are not very good track cars without proper setup. A stock 350Z has a better setup. It's got less body roll and better weight distribution, a lower center of gravity and better brakes and areodynamics, and it's got just as much power. A Mustang can be made into a pretty good track car with some new suspension, sway bar, rotors/calipers/steel-braided hoses/high-temp. fluid, some new rubber, an LSD, remove some extra weight, etc.

  • Actually my buddy owns one. Yes, they handle pretty well, but they just aren't the track cars that 350Zs are. Not in their strock form anyway. My buddy says they understeer a bit compared to the Z, mainly because the COG isn't as low and the weight distribution isn't as good. I'm not saying that they handle bad, because they don't. But when it gets twisty, I would rather have a good ol' Z than a Mustang GT.

  • That's a good looking car, the TL. Actually, the 350Z handles fine, just not the best. It's a great track car, however, because it makes good power and torque, combined with good handling, good braking, and very little understeer or body roll. It's not the best at anything, it's a little bit of everything, and when you have a car that's at least good in every category, you have yourself an excellent track car.

  • No... at least not in a fun way-with power. You'd have to use the parking brake to slide the rear-end out. I will say that the 350 IS A GREAT DRIFT CAR! It seems to balanced perfectly for drifting!

    Sadly though, i popped a gasket and couldn't be arsed to rebuild it. not bad for an 162k motor =)
