But if you needed to get somewhere in a hurry, then yes, I could see cops with lights flashing and maybe sirens to clear traffic. But most esorts are like this, and do not drive very fast. So again, lights are not needed in these cases.

Something that Police and Federal Agents rely on other than training is the fact that people fear the consequences of doing something stupid around an escorted VIP, it acts as a deterrent. The lights also let people know that they have to yield to these vehicles in traffic. Besides, there are procedures and guidelines that need to be followed when on an escort detail for the better safety and security of the civilians and the VIP alike.
