Thank you very much. In this case I had the studio acapella and instrumental. There are ways you can try to seperate vocals and instruments though. But usually the result isn't all that good...

!st option is called center channel extraction. In a stereo track, the vocals usuall sit bang center in the middle. Most music processing software has a center-channel extraction function these days. Use that to ditch everythis further left and right in the spectrum.

...of course, if there are other instruments in the center, you will have to filter those out or use a noise reduction process in which you specify a part of the wave as unwanted noise and have the software eliminate similar patterns. However... the results of this method are usually a bit tinny... but with some fx and a lot of compression, usually they are good enough for a dance mix, even if some low volume beats beats remain.

The 2nd and better option is, if you have a track and either it's acapella or instrumental version. But it HAS to be the proper version of either for this trick. It's called phase-inversion. You run the full version of the song in one track of a music processing software (like FL studio or Music Maker) and exactly line up the instrumental/acapella and invert it's wave-form. Playing both at the same time will take away the instrumental/acapella and leave you with the acapella/instrumental.

But keep in mind, that works only with the exact acapella/instrumental for that very track, not just a similar version.

You also might have to run some filters on the result, but it's generally better that the center channel extraction.

Sometimes it's even sensible to combine both.

However, there are forums and websites you can go to (like acapellas4U).
