Bonnie's a good friend and can still wail BIG time, well in her 60s! She was on our little reality show, just last Summer and was a fun, soulful presence. Sadly, Delaney's gone, but he made his mark and lived his love for the music. Glad to see people, here, appreciate it!
Btw, I saw them open for Blind Faith a million years ago at the Baltimore Civic Center, with Dave Mason on Bass. GREAT show - I can hear it all these years later. Peace...
outside of s. winwoods magnificent voice phrasing like ray charles... this is awfully authentic sounding coming from this cast of characters. very enjoyable post, stellar sound quality all things considered...roll with it baby.
British musician were absolutely crazy about doing concerts with them. Clapton, Dave Mason, George Harisson all played in the band during a '69 England tour.
But Delaney and Bonnie behaved so badly in booze and coke fuelled fights that everyone left to join Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs&Englishmen tour, even Rita Coolidge who did back-up and was best friend with Bonnie.
Their often violent fights were legendary and they had been said having fought frequently. Delaney was kinda badass and Bonnie simply a girl one didn't mess with if one wanted to stay out of trouble.
Delaney once nearly shot Jac Holzman from Electra just due to the fact that he didn't find any D&B records in a local music shop. This then was the end of the Electra engagement...
Voices on loan from God himself.... the most soulful singing I've ever heard - how come no one's ever heard of these guys ?? Who sings like this today ? Agreed with generaltadpole - what the hell happened ??
@zunopa1 ...agreed. D&B had incredible voices and obviously recognized the talent at hand and surrounded themselves with it. They played with the best for sure....and no one uses vocalized harmonies with guitars, back-up singers, and horns either....sad but true.
I saw them in the 70s. They put on a great show. Delaney was kind of tempramental. He was having a problem with the sound. I couldn't tell what it was from where I was. Any way he threw a hissy fit and kicked some mike stands over.
I saw Delaney & Bonnie (w/Dave Mason on Bass) open for Blind Faith @ The Baltimore Civic Center, way back in 69 or so. Excellent show. Man, Steve Winwood was amazing. Proud to say Bonnie is a friend. We've partied around my piano a time or two.
I remember when Bonnie knocked the shit out of Elvis Costello for talkin shit about Ray Charles. I just Love her. That's one awesome Lady right there.
@PRSouthern Why does some stupid little kid have to irrelevantly bring up that kid's name on every video? It's almost like you kids are programmed to pathetically obsess over him whether it's love or hate. Totally sad...
@laylalaylady btw I think "pathetically obsess" is a bit of stretch...it doesn't take much for me to make an observation from a media clip and label JB a douche bag. Eric Clapton is a musician. Justin Bieber is an entertainer. Synths and autotune...right. To process that JB is a DB and to post my opinion took all of about 1-2 minutes of my life. Worth it. lol..pathetically obsess? im sorry you pathetically obsess over him to the degree you feel it necessary to defend him when someone rips him.
@PRSouthern Not only have you made your pathetic obsession with Justin Bieber painfully clear but it seems that you are now pathetically obsessed over the fact that I called you out on your sad obsession seeing that you felt the need to reply to the same comment a day apart. Totally sad...
@laylalaylady What's wrong with ripping you two days apart? I stopped by the video again thought I'd throw 1+ in there. Like I said...60 seconds. What's the matter? Don't want to play ball. You can call people out, but you can't own up to it. Totally sad...bitch.
@PRSouthern Anyone who irrelevantly thinks of some random little boy singer when they listen to great artists like this is obviously obsessed with him. The last thing that comes to my mind is that kid when I listen to good music. You've made it perfectly clear that you're terribly upset and hurt that I called you out on your pathetic Justin Bieber obsession so I'm sorry for hurting your feelings and exposing you for the tool you truly are.
@laylalaylady Do you not see the irony in your statements? You defend JB in every response to me, but you accuse me of obsession over the DB. Mam, I own up to my opinion. Yes, I think JB is a DB. Is that so wrong? I'd like to think I share this idea mutually with at least one other person. Btw I find your word choices interesting: perfectly, pathetic, pathetically, painfully, totally...it's clear you use these words frequently in arguments in failed efforts to demoralize an individual. Peace out
@PRSouthern I haven't defended that kid in any of my comments but it seems that you lack basic reading comprehension to understand that. In fact, I'm doing the exact opposite by pointing out losers like you who irrelevantly bring him up on every video. I wouldn't even know who the kid is at all if tools didn't think it was funny (it's not) to mention him on every YouTube video.
You've made it clear already...you think that kid is a Delicious Babe...we got it, dude.
@laylalaylady "I wouldn't even know who the kid is at all if the tools didn't think it was funny to mention him on every YouTube video." Express some humility. You've made a fool of yourself. Considering that you've accessed modern media (internet, YTube) to view this video, I'm going to assume you've browsed other videos as well. You do stay current on news, correct? Have you happened to glance a magazine in a check-out counter? You've never once come across JB in any of these media formats?lol
@laylalaylady Also, my intention wasn't to be 'funny' by mentioning him on this video. It was to make a comparison/opinion between what was once mainstream music and what is currently mainstream music, and expose JB for what he is - a douche. Just as anyone who would dislike this video is a D. You were simply threatened by that comparison. Remember, you started this by getting offended by my initial comment. You felt the need to step in and defend your boy JB. Good night and until next time!
@PRSouthern The only thing you've exposed is your clear obsession for a teenage boy and the fact that you think he's a Delicious Babe. Stop being so defensive and upset about what you truly love and be proud of who you are. With each reply, you're just making more of an ass out of yourself and proving that your obsession with that kid is more creepy and larger than I originally believed.
@laylalaylady I love how you don't confront any of the points on which I've curb-stomped you. Keep living in denial. Perhaps own up to your foolishness? Btw don't use the word creepy. It's way too cliche much like your personality.
Your new name is "crappie" as in the fish. When a fisherman casts his rod, he occasionally snags a crappie vs. a bass only to disappoint. That's you. You keep coming back for more bait and you hit every time. Nighty night, crappie.
@PRSouthern So basically you're saying that you're fishing for young teenage boys on YouTube and you were disappointed that I'm not one of them? I'm sorry that I'm not a bass (clearly your term for teenage boy popstars) so go chase cock elsewhere, kid.
Stop acting like a creepy loser and people will stop calling you one. It's hilarious and ironic that you're talking about cliches when you're the pathetic sheep who copied the overdone, lame comment on every music video about your DB.
@laylalaylady No actually I don't see anywhere that I basically said I was "fishing for young teenage boys on YouTube." You just made that up...that it?
I have to listen this every few months just to realign my synapses and feel like a human being again. Every note, every lick in this is perfect. Bonnie Bramlett, man - what a soulful babe.

@badmuddy I think it had more to do with the heroin and alcohol dependency myself, but there was a distinct change in his style post cream. He was always on to a looser post bluesbreakers i think.
What a great rhythm guitarist Eric Clapton is. Stirling stuff.
Bonnie actually sung backing vocals in the Ikettes. Ike Turner made her wear 'mantan' so she looked like a blackwoman. It's a testimony to her voice that a blackman not noted for being especially PC would pick a white woman sing as part of his backing group!!!
interesting that Dave Mason is playing lead over EC. song is amazing, white imitators always outsell black originators e.g. Pat Boone made a fortune while Little Richard didn't, Beastie Boys outsold anybody black, and Kenny G is the top selling jazz artist and Rare Earth outsold all the other Motown artists. Few top-selling white artists improve the genre but merely capitalize on being a white alternative to a USA audience. Sorry but Butterfield's singin and blowin aint HOF material.
Delaney & Bonnie's "Friends" included Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Leon Russell, & Rita Coolidge. Damn, where can I find friends like that?
@Treadsoftly14 Yeah, and I just found out, it was Dave Mason playing the acoustic guitar on Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower". I always thought that was a double track, and more evidence of Jimi's genius, but kudos to Dave
Gosh!!! Where is THIS kind of talent these days. Real musicians..real singers...I SO LOVE BONNIE'S VOICE!!! I got my 16 year old hooked on them. I LOVE real atristry..real muscianship...there's nothing like it. Black Crows did a version of this song too..pretty good..but there's no voice like Bonnie's voice

@witchman1 Thanks, witchman. I go online to enjoy "classic" music and usually I get blindsided by somebody who doesn't know me. I always wonder why there are so many angry people typing away, hating the world and cursing people who they don't know. This musical positive energy makes me smile and negates anyone's negative energy. It's okay, you're entitled to your opinion. Can you please enlighten us cause I know somethins happenin here but what it is ain't exactly clear...
As far as popular music, you are dead on, however, if you go to any southern music city or any of these small town music festivals, there are still some great singers and players of this type of music, love this stuff!!
None of the pretty white boys of today can sing anywhere near Delaney's level. Jack White has soul but the sweetness and richness and musicality of Delany's voice is just beautiful. He is entertaining the angels now.
Damn, that Bonnie Bramlett could *sing*. Thank you so much for posting this. Awesome music. So much talent there, and they seem so relaxed... Just great.
Don't forget Whitlock…and Bonnie slugging Elvis Costello around 1981! How can Robert Johnson and Eric Clapton be life long friends…RJ died in 1938? Just saying

Lordy!!!!! The sheer amount of southern soul pouring out of Bonnie as she sings this sends chills up and down my spine for the entire number! Now, no argument, Aretha is still the Queen of Soul, but even she would be goin' Dayum!!!!!! It's a crime that Bonnie isn't more revered than she is for her phenomenal talent! At least you got me, Bon!!!
@JumpinJohnny74 It’s a shame Bobby never got more popular exposure. Listen to “It's Too Late" on Layla when he does the call and response thing with Eric; a magical R&B voice! Best known as a keyboard player, he’s also a great song writer and collaborated with Clapton throughout the Layla sessions. Intending to collaborate again, he sort of fell off the face of the earth waiting, in Ireland of all places, for Clapton to get through his heroin phase, but it just didn’t happen.
@desertswo Unfortunately Whilock is not a very honorable person. He was litterally kicked out of Muscle Shoals.. Him and Kim (CoCo) MO is to run up peoples bills when they stay with them. They are poor trailer trash... and both of them are thief's.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
White people shouldn`t play back music. Never ever ever ever simply because it will always come across as fake, much like white dudes doing rap today. And it IS fake. Eric Clapton never worked a single solltary day in his life other than working for his uncle as a brick layer for about 2 seconds then becoming a professional drug addict and drunk, then he has the gall to declare himself a "bluesman". Yeah darling, you`re a bluesman like Pat Boone is a gangsta rapper.
@JamesTKirkCobain Who made you the judge and jury of what white people or any kind of people can or can't play? Should Black people not be allowed to play basketball due to it being invented by Dr. James Naismith, perhaps he might have thought they were fake? You are entitled to your opinion of course, but so is everyone else, like the Blues Hall of Fame. They decided that Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt, Paul Butterfield, and other White performers should be inducted there. Danke.
-I don't think (but I'm not completely sure..) that they were fired by Delaney & Bonnie, Franklin, but were rather tired of Delaney's "task master" attitude, and the constant bickering between he and Bonnie.. Bobby Whitlock left first, and actually went to England to move in with Eric, and then other two followed suit..

interesting that Dave Mason is playing lead over EC. song is amazing, white imitators always outsell black originators e.g.

@Treadsoftly14 Yeah, and I just found out, it was Dave Mason playing the acoustic guitar on Hendrix's "All Along The Watchtower". I always thought that was a double track, and more evidence of Jimi's genius, but kudos to Dave

None of the pretty white boys of today can sing anywhere near Delaney's level. Jack White has soul but the sweetness and richness and musicality of Delany's voice is just beautiful. He is entertaining the angels now.
