You've converted me, I've heard of Rosalind Russell, but after seeing this I really must try harder to track down her films, sadly they are a pain to find, thanks for posting!!
Her autobiography, "Life Is A Banquet" is still available and often hysterical. One incident therein: when a young girl, she took her older sister's boyfriend's car for a ride without his knowledge. A younger sister was with her. Rosalind went through a stop sign and the car gently hit a stone wall. He sister said, "Roz, there's a stop sigh back there!", and Rosalind replied, "And there damned well should be!".
someone please help me. i am a great fan of the roz and i was wondering is it me or did lucy still all she could fro the roz. even when she and bea arthur attempted to do mame again . help and please reply
do we love Roz in the United States? YES!!! Has anyone here seen Trouble with angels or the sequel Where angels go trouble follows? Two of her best. Both of the she Plays Mother Superior in an all girls catholic school. In real life she was very catholic.
my favorite rosalind russell was the Auntie Mame in between scenes with Patrick. it always made a closeness for me and my mom. Lady Iris and Lord Dudley. If someone knows how to cut those I would be very thankful. I think I am going to lose my Mom soon.
never saw the Velvet Touch but I will see if I can find any bits and pieces of it on ylutube. In Picnic her desolation is so complete its one of the best portrayals of anybody going over the falls ever. Yikes. Almost painful to watch its so real. She puts everybody in the cast to shame with that one. Holden was not quite up to the role, one of the few he was not quite good enough, but then he was usually so good it doesn't matter. Just a digression.
I could be mistaken here, but fairly sure she never played a villain: she was just so darned good underneath it would have been hard for anyone to believe she was evil. Quite a remarkable lady.
@doctornoooo Her role in The Velvet Touch wasn't really that of a villain, but she wasnt 100% good either, it was a darker role but she was excellent in it.
Thank you so much for doing this! I wrote a paper about "Auntie Mame," for one of my art history courses in college. I am currently working on a fundraiser to bring the original movie back to the big screen! I loved the bloopers!
@1976SaraM And Rozalind Russell excelled at comitragedy/tragicomedy ... as in films Picnic (plays an "old maid" schoolteacher who gets tipsy at a town picnic and yells to her reluctant beau, "Ya GOTTA marry me, Harold!" iconic) and as Mama Rose in "Gypsy" (ex.: when learns dtr. June has deserted the act, seated on bench she goes into a misty then glazed eyed shocked trance, then emerges brainstorm inspired). She had depth, truth, daring and guts ... ingredients of all great art and artists.
Oh, this was just WONDERFUL. Thank you, thank you for the hugely enjoyable few minutes I spent watching this. I've always liked her, but watching this -- well, she was just fabulous, wasn't she? And it's SO obvious that Lucille Ball must have taken a GREAT deal from her. What a smart woman she had to have been -- those were very demanding roles and so physical!
Rosalind stole my heart as Auntie Mame - Never would have watched but for my mother. Since then, always wished that I had an auntie Mame. Roz makes me smile - thanks for posting
I love Roz, she was born where I live which is amazing and some family friends of mine are related to her- I am so jealous ;)
