  • I would have to disagree with the comment below. The d18 and the d28 models are 2 different animals. 28s are solid rosewood, and have big cannon bass and a loud punch to them. D18 is mahagony and has alot of sparkle and treble if u will. Its a matter of taste though. Personally i thought the d28 was the winner of the hd28 and the d18 :) hd28 is real muddy and bassy but ive found them to be short on the treble end. Standard 28 more balanced and punchy! Thats why i took one home :)

  • Interesting idea - playing a fiddle tune on the guitar. You do a good job of simulating the fiddle sound. I may try that myself on my guitar.

  • are you jason spencer?

  • No.

  • And still can't!!!

  • I love my d-15 the mohagony has a nice rich big sound and the tone is unmistakably martin.just keep it away from drastic temperature changes as the wood warps easily. I found elixers to be the best I use 11s but anything above that will give you a nice chunky low E

  • Nice. I also have a D-15, and wasn't thrilled with it until I had the action adjusted and switched to .013s. Along with the wood aging over the past 5 years, I have come to love it. I can get good tones from flatpicking or fingerpicking. A fantastic Martin considering the price! I would like a little more bass response from the low E and a little more volume, but that's about it. It has a very nice "woody" tone, like you said, and with medium picks I can get a decent top end from it.

  • Sounds really good, also, how do you like the D-15 Martin? Did you have the action adjusted? Just curious, i'm in the market for a new Dread.

  • Thanks, appreciated. I like the D-15 a lot, for the price ($950) it's about as good of a bluegrass dread as you can find.

If you're in the market for a Martin, and you can spend a little more, check out the D-18 ($1900) or the HD-28 ($2500). The D-18 is similar but has a spruce top, which gives it a slightly brighter sound and a little quicker response.

The HD-28 has scalloped braces and rosewood back and sides, and it has a little less "woody" sound.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • The X series is a good investment too. They aren't unbelievable, but for the price (300 to 700) you're getting one kick butt guitar!

  • I just can't get enough of this.....

  • Totally different right hand! Your accuracy and speed with both hands have improved since as well. No shameless plugs this time =)

  • very good man ...come check out my version later dude
