The word "Libera" is Latin for "Free". (not "libra") Libera is a boys choir from the south of London, attached to the church of St Philip's, Norbury. They are conducted by Robert Prizemen who also writes original music for them. There are many boys choirs in England, but the style used by Libera is different- it's more modern. I find it a bit thin and hushy, but other people love it! They sing some old classics, but a lot of very modern hymns and other music, and have lots of invitations!
Ah, thank you, that's exactly what bewilders me about it...'thin and hushy' is a good way of describing the sound. However, I acknowledge that some people may like this - tastes are different. At least it's pure.

These boys are, apparently, a famous group. Good for them.
But in Germany at least, I know a few ensembles who are much better (with very young singers!), and I'm sure that's the same in other countries.
I think the point that was being made is that Libera is a choir of normal boys and their primary aim is not to create the most perfect, virtuoso music in the world: they have a higher agenda! That is why Libera has such avid fans! You should listen to some of their stuff - they do an incredible variety and they are great boys.

Choir members are not any more or less stuck up than the rest of the population. But I guess it's nice to have a vocal group of young boys as a change.
Sorry Chocolateluvr1987 you misunderstood me. I am not suggesting that choir members are stuck up - I am a scholar of a Cathedral Choir myself - I was saying it is a good thing that Libera clearly do not fit in to the FALSE steroetype that choirboys are stuck up. I love intricate, professional choral music but it doesn't stop me loving and appreciating Libera for what they are.

Is it wrong to prefer professional choir music over this, to have a different taste in music? I'm merely expressing a personal preference here. Just because they are young doesn't mean I have to automatically like what they do. It's cute I suppose, but that's it. I'm just surprised to read how famous they are, given that they are pretty much at the level of any decent, local boys' choir - only a smaller ensemble.

But all the boy's in Libera are very talented boy's, so... He's probably Irish or Scottish... Well, the US is a broad term, so I'll say East Coast, USA!! I actually got to attend one of Libera's concerts on the US tour last Spring... They are amazing live!! They sound just as beautiful live as they do on the CD's, which is something many adult performers can't manage!!
I don't think so... Last spring was the first time they had come over to the US, and they were here for 3 weeks... I think they plan to go to Japan and Korea this spring!! That is where their main fan base is!!
Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to take pictures during the concert, and the few I got at the meet and greet weren't very good... Also the meet and greet for people who couldn't afford the $200 special tickets, was just with the newer boys and the boys that aren't in the spotlight... Like the Cole brothers and Tiarnan... However, LiberaUSA (who posted this video) also posted a great video Libera made after their visit... Search "Libera US Tour 2008" and it should come up!! Its a great video...
I am a music teacher from Venezuela, and master a children choir in my hometown, a small town in the center of my country Caicara del Orinoco. Tears drop from my eyes when I hear these voices plenty of tenderness and love, children are smiles from heaven, gifts that life offers to us, they´re beatiful, god bless Libera
They don't always wear white pullovers. Sometimes they wear white robes or black pullovers. lol ;-D . Seriously though, it's just part of their uniform look, so they're more easily identified as Libera.
