It is still hard for me to get used to thinking of zoo animals by their names. For so long, only zookeepers knew the animals' names. It was thought that if the visitors knew the animals' names, they would call out to them, and that might interfere with training efforts.

Yes, the Elmwood Park Zoo is a great zoo, especially for its size (15 sq. acres).
All of the animals can be seen up close, and most of the exhibits are the "open air" or "view through fence" type that allow visitors to see, hear, and even smell the animals.
