  • Gorgeous!

  • that's a rough scaled bush* viper right? so cute :3

  • @mkocja5a Variable Bush Viper

  • God damn those scales look so badass.

  • i have watches several of your videos, and I think what you do is so cool! Thanks for taking care of these guys!

  • You seem to know your stuff viperkeeper, so i'll ask the question - do you exclusively feed your snakes pre-killed feeder mice, or do you ever use live food? And is there a reason you don't use live food?

Watching other videos some people seem to range from adamant live-feeders because their pet has to see it moving (and it's more "natural) to people who only use frozen, pre-killed feeder mice, and i'm not sure if it's purely an ethics thing or if there is any real benefit between the two.

  • viperkeeper has a snake ever bit u

  • @joanie136 See my FB Viperkeeper page for that answer

  • does the weather ever effect the snakes attitudes? thanks. stay safe

  • @timberland1108 Don't think I've noticed any.

  • subbed :)

  • do you heat the food or just defrost

  • Al, Do you sell to individual keepers or specifically zoos?

  • @RndmUTubeName Both but only if they have references that can be verified.

  • What are your thoughts on scent manipulation? For instance: coating the fuzzies with fish slime? Just wondering.

  • @Earthdogbonzo3 Do it all the time. sometimes it works, sometimes not.

  • @lordstanworth definetley a carpet python.just dont let the kids to close without supervision.

  • 3:35 He looks SOOOOOO happy!!

  • @lordstanworth Get a California Kingsnake

  • Very beutiful snake, thx for sharing :)

  • You are an extaordinary individual. BTW how much does snake venom sell for? Is there a flat rate or varies by species. Which venom is most sought after?

    Thanks

    Tara

  • @xzarrion2000 Depends of the species and the quanity of venom it can produce per extraction. Elapids are generally more expensive since they produce smaller quantities of venom.

  • i really enjoy your videos. the amount of information is amazing. out of all the snakes in your collection which one do you fear the most of getting bit ? thank you

  • @DJKEVINEBADD I don't give that much thought, they all would cause a serious if not fatal evenoming.

  • I saw a video of a guy that caught a water cobra and it immediately latched onto his hand. He just stood there laughing about it. He knew what kind of snake it was but didn't take it seriously at all.

  • Are you ready for earth Quakes Anything how about floods? like to hear your plan?

  • wow that yellow red one has the coolest colors

  • that sounds like a riddle, "what do you do with a tornado and a room full of venomous snakes?" perhaps it's Viperkeeper's riddle of the week...

  • yummy!

  • why dont you show a video of the snakes breeding?

  • Watch the video series named "The next Generation"

  • thanks! :) keep up the good work because youre vids are great and the snakes!

  • oh oke i am sorry.. the first snake the yellow-red ....

  • Atheris squamigeria

  • love youre vids man you have realy nice snakes! but could you give me the latin name of this snake.... thanks inadvance

    grtzz from holland

  • Which snake? give me a time...

  • I'm not offering. Just no one has a youtube video of this beautiful snake outside of a zoo channel. Probably for good reasons. :-)

  • Ever have any interest in owning a bushmaster, if you don't already own one?

  • Not really...

  • "what the hell do you do with a tornado and a whole room full of venemous snakes?"

I would say, you get the flock outta there!!!!

  • Hope that it misses..

  • at least there was no frickin tornado

  • how are your vids so long???

  • I joined long ago when that was allowed

  • If a tornado hit your house and caused some of your snakes to get loose....That'd be very bad...

  • I HAVE A SPITTING COBRA!

  • move from tornato country

  • I don't live in tornado country... Must be George Bush's fault this weather was this bad

  • Love the Tornado cam towards the end of the vid Al. Are you in Twister country?

  • They happen here periodlically but not with the frequency as in the mid-south US

  • hi viperkeeper . I have been watching your videos for a long time. Now i got a question . Do you keep regular ( not venemous ) snakes too ?

Sory for my fucked up english .. I'm from slovenia ;)

  • No, I don't keep non-venomous

  • AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!*runs away in terror*

  • HI, your vids are always awsome.

One question: do you keep specific antivenom for every species you have?

  • For the really toxic/large ones

  • Is there an antivenmon for the mamba? and do you have it? i know you have a couple of the bad boys

  • Yes & Yes

  • That is cool how you can see his fangis in the beginning of video. I'm wondering if you feed them dead rats and mice to keep them from being hunters??

  • The species have 30 million years experience in being a hunter, not likely to go away. Just easier not have mice & rats to feed & care for.

  • beautiful collection its so amazing how calm u are even though there hot snakes

    keep doing wat ur doing

  • They react much faster than humas, the faster you move the faster they move. Also they can sense fear and malace IMO.

  • i see you all the time at the hamburg/northern berks reptile expo and your animals that you have for sale are always gorgeous. you have an amazing collection as well. how would you rank the water cobras aggressiveness compared to a monocle cobra? i was thinking about getting one but i have no experience with the water cobras, i've worked with monocles red spitters and kings, to me the kings are just fascinating to watch

  • Naja annulata, from every specimen I've come across are pussycats. Not a foul bone in their bodies. They still need to be treated with respect since their bite would be as lethal as any other Naja.

  • What an absolutely beautiful snake you have in the beginning of the video. That snake has some of the most beautiful eyes I've seen from many snakes. What type of Viper is this?

  • Variable Bush Viper (Atheris squamigeria)

  • wow.. the snake at the beginning was just plain awesome! Do you feed them pre killed food all the time or do you feed live sometimes? just wondering. thanks for all the great vids!

  • I have only a few specimens that will not feed on F/T rodents, so they get live rodent. I do not video live feedings.

  • You sir, have an amazing collection. I must agree with what others are saying as well. You're doing an amazing thing for the reptiles, by getting past the uneducated fear, and educating people. I have never kept venomous. Would like to in the future. Kudos to you bud. Great collection by a well educated keeper! Keep up the good work!

  • if only one reg. a/v how many times have you been bit? and how long have you been working with hots?

  • Since 1973...

    6 total....2 dry...2 slight...1 mild..1 moderate with A/V

  • Hey Viperkeeper you said you had been bitten before just wondering what bit you?

  • The only bite that required A/V was a Timber Rattlesnakes bite. C horridus.

  • Only a FAT Asp

  • some people have Picassos and Monets. your snakes are so beautiful.

  • Yes, the creator is a real master.

  • awesome to see someone giving that credit instead of "The Big Bang" love your collection man doing an amazing thing for the hobby right now

  • Hey, great video, as usual, just love your videos, Whats the most dangerous snake you have cought??, have u ever been bit, or close to death?

  • He got bit by a timber rattlesnake when he was a teen, he caught it while hiking on a mountain and kept it as a "pet". One day, he had to pin it for some reason and somthing went wrong and he got bit. Isn't that right Al? (I listened to the radio show)

  • Yes..more or less....thatnks for the assist. :-)

  • What is that supposed to mean

  • How the heck did you find\buy a water cobra?

  • I know...much...tell little

  • Lol

  • beautiful snake!

  • where do you get these snakes? do you buy them or catch them? are you a herpethologist?

  • All of the above

  • If a tornado hits a room full of snakes you go sit in a corner, put your head between your legs and kiss your butt good bye. Good video.

  • 87% actually. You need to "power feed" them when there able to eat more thn one. It's just getting them used to feeding..

  • If pinkies are about 80% water, what is the other benefit pinkies provide for snakes besides hydration?

  • Nutrition

  • did kurt die of a snake bite??

and why dont you do a tribute vid

  • No, Curt did not die of a snakebite. Curt was a very private individual, if I did a video about him and he would think of it as going against what he wanted.

  • Really scary, only little building and heavy weather...

    This sky is really beautifull.

  • oop nvm it was a p[rob with my laptop sorry bout that.

  • is it just me or is there no sound. Lol.

  • Get a Hylonomus for your collection.

  • Yeah..maybe a T-rex too

  • Whats this... Extinct species of lizards? Sure... Could you bring me some extinct centipedes please?

  • I didn't know lobotomies were still in fashion, go figure.

  • Another great video, Al. Keep on posting them!

I think the last place I would want to be when a tornado hit is a room with venomous snakes.

I can't help that thinking that Kurt would be happy that you are showing off a snake from his collection. RIP Kurt.

  • It still pains me that Kurt is gone needlessly. It's an honor to be his friend and display some of his animals.

  • Wow, the outside of your snake room looked, well, not like i thought it would be. Were in P.A. do you live? Anywere near Allport?

  • hey al you mentioned the mangashan (sp?) pitviper, are they still in the collection, and if they are could we see them in some up coming vids? educational and spectacular as usual! thanks buddy!

  • Currently not in the collection, no use keeping a lone male.

  • do u keep any snakes tht r not venomous

  • No...I seldom do.

  • wow man the first snake was amazing!

  • Variable Bush Viper (Atheris squamigera)

  • ah snakes an thunderstorms 2 of my favorite things! lol.

That lil puff Adder looked like a pitbull in the dark the way she/he? tagged that feeder lol.

Glad you came away safe though. How much damage did the storm do if any?

  • Some limbs came down but not damaging anything...

  • Wow, you should get one of those helmets like the miners wear with the light attached. That way you can have light and still have both your hands free.

  • I have one.

  • A venomous snake video with a blackout twist, your most epic video yet! Also I had no idea that your snake room is in centre a for forest like that.

  • I did not have a blackout planned, life happens! I just try to portray venomous keeping , real, as it happens. I don't set-up any shot, anytime.

  • Yes, I know the blackout was caused by the storm, I was just saying it made the video very intense, not to say that your other videos of working with venomous snakes aren't intense enough already.

  • That's the second time it's happened! I was forcefeeding something nasty the first time when the lights went out, luckly I knew exactly where the flashlite was. As a result of that incident I installed the emergence light at the suggestion of my friend Bob.

  • wow, great video! I would be freaking out! The clouds looked crazy as well.

  • haha that must of suked and when u say cobra it sounds like ur saying colbra

  • You just didn't have anything else to say, did you?

  • Just imagine doing table top with a boomslang or something then everything goes black. Makes me shiver just thinking about it.

  • Yeah..how much fun it would be while unpacking mamba's from a shipment..Yikes!

  • I seem to remember seeing the male squam clip before. You have so many clips that it must be hard to keep track of all of the ones that have been uploaded.

    Very nice power failure demo!

  • I have another male that is sort of like that except the pattern on the top of the head is different. After I use a video I delete it from the raw video file but I do make mistakes.

    Al

  • Wow!!! saw the title and expected perhaps a mad Mamba. Love the IR Puff she is a stunner! I remember the Mang shang IR footage very nice and also some post feeding IR of Darth.

Great vid Al as usual and I hope you ant the guys didn't end op in OZ.

  • 4:05 he said, "leave me in peace to smoke my mouse tail!!!"

  • That was a cool video! It shows the reality and unpredictability of this world.

  • wow thats one thing you dont want happening when you have venomous reptiles out and about

  • Wow what an exciting life you lead - surrounded by venomous snakes and wild weather - never boring is it?! ;)

  • seldom

  • tornadoe? geez

cool snakes too, all stunners as usual

  • Hey, If you have any Herp deaths. My brother is a Taxidermist and He loves to work with reptiles. We can't stand to kill stuff in my family so if you got any stuff in the freezer he might want it.

  • Yes but do to the vast numbers of lawyers in this country looking for a quick lawsuit I no longer provide any.

  • Ok. thanks anyways.

  • My question is why do female snakes kill male snakes after having sex? Just curious

  • Let me ask them the next time I see them doing it.

If I answered you it would just be a guess anyway.

  • If I had to hazard a guess, it would be as an easy food supply. I know of several creatures (mostly insects and arachnids) who do the same thing. The father's "sacrifice" goes towards giving the offspring a substantial head start in development. Just a simi-educated guess though =P

  • Scary stuff! Its nice to see that all of the safety precautions work when they need to!

  • power outage +venomous snakes +backup lights =rave party of hemolytic and neurotoxic doom

  • gorgeous water cobra!

  • holy crap i would shit my self if i was handling a mamba a cobra or any other poisonus snake wow you seriously have some guts

  • luv the vids

  • hey al, do u use undertank heaters with those plastic storage bin enclosures, if so, any worries the heaters will melt the bins, thanks

  • No, they are all room temp although some are near the cage lights.

  • Ha Ha, very calm, too right about the Mamba that really could be ugly! Where abouts was that storm?

  • Outside my snake room :-P

  • ROFL! Great vid as always bud! Keep up the great work and stay safe!

  • great video! thank goodness for backup generators.

  • AWSOME squam that power outage sucks

  • Thanks for posting

  • another great video al, i would love to see your venomous collection in person someday. i love that puff if you ever decide not to keep her i would be interested i think she would go well with my nice yellow colored male keep up the great videos.

  • why do you get to make longer vids

  • Because I was a director under the "old" program, so I get to keep my ability to make videos videos up to 1 gB in size.

  • You Know....If A Tornado Would Have Hit Your Snake Room That Would Have Been Insane.... Death By Tornado/Viper/Cobra Venom... That Would Make Some Headlines LOL

  • Yeah...that's what I was thinking.

  • 5 stars scary stuff with the power off.

  • great vid as always, love storms but maybe not so much if I was working with hots lol. Keep up the great work :)

  • yay new video.

  • Five stars once again. Few videos here on YouTube are as educational and informative as yours.

  • Thanks...

  • BEAUTY!

  • Awesome vid my good friend. I like how you show that anything can happen at anytime. also you stay very calm while others would have flipped out.

    5 stars again!

  • Thats some serious weather you have there. Great vid as always.

  • Holy crap balls...that's just what I was thinking! Good thing it wasn't Kermit being fed when the lights went out! A tornado would be disastrous. Thanks for the vid Al - great as always.

  • Awsome Video 5 Stars

How long did it take for the power to come back on?

  • cool video as always, thanks. im south african, it was good to hear about some snakes we have back home. the first time i ever saw a snake i was five and was digging in a hole in the yard and found a rhinkals. that got me into reptiles.

  • thats a real nice snake i havnt watched all vid yet so i dont know whats going to happen haha

  • OMG I made the first comment!!!! j/k

  • first view/coment

  • Wow! A truly exciting video. Educational as allways. Interesting twist at the end ;) Hope you got everything running again.

  • Lost power for several hour but I have a back-up generator if needed.

  • That is one Beautiful snake.... i just wanted to say that i barely suscribed to you about a week ago and i love all ur videos.... very entertaining but more educational.
