What an amazing 'bendy' bow!! Unusual lens used there! More seriously though - love the Debussy. Amazingly dreamy quality without being overly sentimental. True master.
Is it due to static in the recording, or did the orchestra really have a hard time keeping up with Mr. Heifetz's tempo? His performance is brilliant, but they sound at least half a beat late on all of the pickups.
Humorously, it appears that the model had lovely shoulder-length blond hair, but someone thought she needed more length and pinned a badly matched fall under her real hair. But that was TV back in those days...gorgeous music, played by a genius, but "illustrated" by cheesy theatrics.
her hair looks like cotton wool and ENTRAILS. Stunning violin playing/violinist though, I played La Fille Aux Cheveux De Lin at school and my head mistress and some other teachers welled up :P I'd probaly murder Hora Staccato if i tried it, HAHA- HORROR STACCATO! ..i crack myself up
Flaxen Hair - I was given this as a piano piece to learn when I was sixteen - way too young, one needs maturity to to this justice - exactly what Heifetz brings to it. Its a country folksong
The movie "Portrait of Jennie" (with Jennifer Jones) has this music played in it ("Girl with the flaxen hair") and it certainly adds to the mystery of the tale. Very "effervescent".
The piece itself of course is one of the greatest short pieces of all time, and the recording.... I'm almost glad we get all this fuzz, it lends itself perfectly to the idea that the piece is meant to give an impression, nobody here is sending a message. Heifetz pulls it off remarkably of course.
A lot of people might of mistakend my last comment made about Heifetz. When I posted... Out of tune.. no way.. sorry, I meant there is no way Heifetz is playing out of tune. Heifetz always had perfect intonation!!
what a play. Have never before heard such feeling for the sound and harmony, in the play. Many today play to fast, or they, miss in understanding the sound real feeling. Try to listen to Arve Tellefsen from Norway, he is also real good.
But this was somthing of the best I ever have heard.
I don't like Hora Staccato with an orchestral accompaniment. It's as though the violin has to fight the orchestra the whole time. That said, Heifetz is excellent, as usual in both works.
It's time to get your ears checked. You're full of bile, please keep your comments to yourself, unless you want everyone in this community to think even less of you. Oh wait, can you get any lower on that list?
Llore al escuchar tan majestuosa interpretación.

At 3;50 why does Heifetz Bow go off so much.??

@gibsonpaddy I'd say to change pitches or he made a mistake. He's still human.

I'd much prefer to watch Heifetz play than some girl pretend to brush her hair.

Oh, puh-lease.
That self-obsessed kind of blonde is a dis-service to the music . . . and the musicians.
Try instead (if you have to have an image): an unself-conscious 9 year-old working on a jigsaw puzzle . . . or something like that.

Donald Voorhees was so young in this video. I almost didn't recognize him!
B.T.W. this was filmed in 1949.

Jascha Heifetz in all his life time played only 2 notes out of tune, in rest...He has the perfect intonation.Heifetz's left hand is the best.

Out of tune?! Very funny :)
I think he is one of the few violinists you can test your ear by his intonation. Far from my favorite though.

I prefer this one to the other Heifetz video where he does this same piece.

Are you crazy?? I have true and tested perfect pitch. What you hear is the bend because of the recording quality, not pitch...
