We adopted a very young greyhound who never raced. After 10 years of owning greyhounds, it kills me to see how racing really affects them (though I toured the tracks as a child)- because she is so much like a normal dog. She is more playful, has no scars, I can rub her ears without her yelping, she comes when called, and she loves to run- around the yard, that is. She is the most loyal grey, and a lovely dog who gives us great joy.
My oldest greyhound broke her leg in training and still has pain, my 2nd female broke her leg which was never repaired correctly so she hopped on 3 legs. Fortunately my young male never finished racing school and is in good health!
I have a rescued greyhound who was saved from New Hampshire's Hinsdale racetrack almost 2 years ago. SHE could have been "Amber" and have suffered the same fate. Why she never had her FIRST race...perhaps a training injury...perhaps a second too slow...I will never know. I am forever grateful the owner gave her to Greyhound Rescue and Adoption (GRA) to find a forever home here in Ontario.
God bless Senator Roberge and other Senators for voting to get this bill passed!

This sport should not exist anymore.
