@MacOSXForYou hey you can text other cell phones as well! theres an app called TextFree and ive been talking to my cousin with it and he's using the ipod touch. the person with the ipod has to be in a wifi area with it though to be able to send texts. its awesome!!!

@shadyanddre I don't usually use text plus. but if I was to text someone via text plus I would have a different number but my friend's number will stay the same. In iMessage, we don't have a number, we have a .me account (this is technically our number).

For starters you need to have home wi-fi to power message. If you didn't need wi-fi, then it wouldn't be called an iPod it would be called iPhone.

@Stheens Essentially, if both of you are connected to wifi and text each other it's free and no data will be effected. Now if you have your mobile data on it might make some changes to the data but it won't be such a harm. So for example, You can text as long as you are connected to WIFI , it doesn't matter if your mobile data is deactivated or not.
