Filmed at St. Cecilia's at 6th & Cedar in San Diego. At the time it was known as the 6th Avenue Playhouse. It was a theater until 2005, when it was shut down because it needed expensive earthquake renovations. Now it's going to be turned into a restaurant.
Awesome to see this video and hear this song again. I was at the taping of the Hollywood Hills video and am in the crowd. Ahhhh The Beat Farmers, crazy good old Rock n Roll!!! San Diego style.
@brando7770 Perhaps but Joey Harris was with the band from 1986 onward and was certainly a great fit. Buddy was a different singer but certainly not "way better" than Jerry or Joey.
All of us other fans welcome you! Now just imagine how hooked you would be if you got to see the incredible live shows when Country Dick was alive. You would be blown away. They put on some of the best live shows I've ever seen and I was blessed to witness this in San Luis Obispo in my college days a half dozen times. After my first show, it didn't matter what I had scheduled or what night it was - everything else got cancelled to go to a Beat Farmers show! What a natural high then!
Well it finally happened. Thank you Rick Downs for putting it together. Casbah monday night. Between the Farmers and Mentals sets Joey, Jerry and Rolle got up and ripped through Ridin',Singing the Blues and 20th Century Man. Friggin awesome. For 15 minutes all the shit was forgotten, the room was sold out and it felt like 1990. It is great to be alive
This was one of the best bands ever! I really, really like this song. I caught them 3 times in San Jose. I miss them, None of this emo crap today compares. They lived big and died young. WTF is Rock n Roll good for except that? Growing old would never suit them, I mean can you imagine an arthritic and balding, pot bellied Country Dick? I can't. It's a rough life and rougher as you get older.
My brother bought that on cassette from some used record store for a $1 just because of the cover. What a steal. Great album, great track, great band.
Delighted to find this video. Takes me back to seeing the BF at the Manchester International club in England when they were on tour to promote the album. Only five people turned up to watch them. They delivered a brilliant set then bought the audience a beer and had a chat afterwards.
Great guys. Great gig. They deserved wider acclaim.
Thus began my admiration, inspiration, dozens of live shows, listening to their albums over and over again, soaking up as much of their music, their spirit, their charisma, as I could. Even got Country Dick's solo "The Devil Lied to Me" album & "The Pleasure Barons" (beat farmers, Buddy Blue (RIP), Mojo Nixon & Dave Alvin). In between the Country Dick antics & the bravado barratone in the middle of the straight ahead rock & roll cow punk sound is some really good songwriting. In my top 3 bands.
Man O man - I really miss seeing these guys play live. Saw them first time in SLO when they busted into the upstairs of SLO Brew where Mother Hips was half way into their set. I heard my friend Ted say, "Hey, it's the Beat Farmers!" as they came up the stairs. "Who?" I said. Mother Hips welcomed them onstage, they jammed and put on a hell of a show for the next hour, saying that the bar they were playing at in Los Osos that night had nobody there, so they came over to SLO. RIP Country DIck
@AcetateFiend HaHa I was there for that one. That was awsome. I went to see them at the vets hall in 1988 and their opening band Mama Roo never showed, so they played both sets. RIP Dick.....
Damn straight Stein157. Best band I ever saw. Their LP's and Almanac's are among my most cherished posessions. Buying Country Dick a beer, talking with the band and seeing them live 4 times are among my most cherished memories. I'm amazed at how many videos have been posted. Thanks to everyone who's put one up. RIP Dick and Buddy? No way !!!!! They're still ROCKIN' wherever they are!!!!
Ain't that the truth. You and ursafan nailed it. Saw them probably half a dozen times. I remember once me and couple buddies got to the venue/bar EARLY and were just hanging out and out of nowhere Country Dick comes in, bangs his hand down on our table and says, "Ready, Mates?" And we were grinning like schoolgirls getting asked to the Prom by the football stud. Great times for sure.
Gosh, I miss hanging with these guys before and after the show........even got up on stage with 'em a time or two. What a classy bunch of guys that never got inflated egos! Country Dick was always guaranteed to make your day. God bless you, I'm sure that Heaven enjoys having you around!
Some people prefer to be spoon-fed main-stream sissyfied pop nashville wannabe rock pablum and will never, ever be able to appreciate real rock-n-roll
Saw them live in San Diego a couple of times. A great band. Country Dick was very down to earth. Met him at the Elephant Bar he sat down with us, then went to his car brought his boom box in and let us here so new songs. He is missed
First saw Country Dick in about 1980-81 with the Penetrators. Saw Jerry with Jerry Raney and the Shames around around 81-82. Saw Joey with Joey Harris and the Speedsters around the same time. All great bands. But The Beat Farmers were one in a million, and their fans were legion. Went home drenched and stinkin of beer from several BF shows at the Bacchanal and the Belly Up. Once my gf yelled out to Dick she wanted a b-day kiss. He walked over, opened his duster, and unzipped his pants. Hilarious
They are an alternative rock, country-rock, and hard rock band. They have been described as being cow punk, jangle pop, roots rock, hard-twang Americana, country-rock, swingabilly, and Creedence swamp-pop.
If you gotta ask, you've probably never seen them. That makes them the best band you've never seen! Buy their music, they live(d) it! Get Tales of the New West (Expanded), it's one of those throwback type of albums that EVERY song kicks ass.
hey bodiespizza:tried to reply using u-tube system; didn't work. stupid little ball kept spinning. so anyway yeah you might know me though I wasn't really anyone but a short-shit fan who always consumed more than I should then... name's Bill C. how you doing?
I took a friend to a Beat Farmers show, he had never heard of them, and liked hip-hop. He was so hyped, he said it was the best night of his life. That pretty much says it all does'nt it?
I was there for this and am in the front row, right in front of Joey, who was my favorite Farmer. It was an absolute blast and something I will always remember, even if I didn't get to see the video for almost 20 years! Joey finally sent it to me (I traded him a recording of him and Dick doing a raunchy version of the 12 days of Xmas) and it took me quite aways back! I was happy to pick myself out of the crowd too! The Beat Farmers rocked hard and I loved them dearly!
Amen and a few Hallelujahs in there as well. Not many other guys like Country Dick who'd come out after the show and sink a few beers with you. I agree with a few posts back, The Beat Farmers never got what they deserved. Maybe it's better this way. They would never have fit in with the record establisment anyway. They remain a treasured jewel in my rock n' roll memories. Wish I coulda seen them just one more time though!
Amen, the greatest bar band to ever walk the planet.Saw them so many times I lost track.Still remember smoking a j outside the Merc cafe in Denver w/Dick and Rolle.Dick I miss ya man but, you could'nt have picked a better way to go out, kicking, screaming and drinking. That band in hell just got a whole lot louder.

I discovered the Beat Farmers in 1986 w/"Riverside." First saw them live in 1989. Saw them 16 times during the nest 3 years. A GREAT band!! Tight, fun, powerful, great musicians. Live, they were incredible. Sad they got screwed over by the record industry and never became the stars they deserved to be.

Saw thede guys at the Bacchanaal on New Year's eve 1987 (?)
Also at the Belly Up in Solana Beach.
sold out both venues, and were soooo entertaining you almost couldn't believe this was a San Diego band.
They set the bar, no pun intended!
RIP Buddy Blue and Country Dick!
