  • i'm young but i'm digging Sam Cooke's music right now. It speaks to me!

  • i like this music this my boy friend favorate song and me too.

  • Nothings better than the classics<3

  • Sam Cooke sang a song called "Oh Lord i am trying" with the soul stirrers. Even though i wasn't in the Christian life, that is one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard.

  • What a beautiful voice and performance by Sam. They took him in a hit. Probably because he dared to establish another record label (SARS), that would have drawn even more AA entertainers away like Motown did. I know how they operate. That's why they tried to humiliate him in the way they did it, to make an example. I said tried, because they failed, he could never be humiliated. It is they who committed this murder, who have been humiliated, once they left this earth.Sam lives on in our souls.

  • I can't stop listening to this song! :D

  • Sam Cooke swag for sure

  • Sam died like Johnny, on the "hardwood floor", He was and still is the Man!

  • I'm 13 and I love this song.

  • The 1 dislike is kind of funny. That seriously must have been an accident.

  • A main ingrediant in music with so many imitators. King Sam Cooke. What word in any language can discribe the greats ? You already knew you were one, and still is. YOU ARE ONE OF THE BLESSED !!!

  • Flashback! I learned this song AND many other S.C. songs while doing chores on Saturday mornings. My momma was old school - even though I was only 3 & 4 years old, I had a rag in one hand and furniture polish in the other! Thank you Sam Cooke, I still love to clean my house!

  • pretty well ty

  • I'm from outer space and live in a cracker jack box and I love this song.

  • I love Frankie(A)

  • Oop, sorry i posted that twice....

  • @TheHassebrock Wow the sound of the voice and music is transforming The man is singing his own fate

is nt he Am I the only one who thinks this?

  • I was learning piano for this song, and I wanted to know the song I was learning. Great quality and fantastic song! Thank you so much for this video!

lol, what if the girl he was with (not Frankie, but the other one) was his cousin? the last part where he admits that he was 'doin her wrong' sorta cancels out the idea, but what if?

  • I was learning piano for this song, and I wanted to know the song I was learning. Great quality and fantastic song! Thank you so much for this video!

  • lol for theater class i have to dance this song but this song get stuck in my head and i love it.!

  • I grew up listening to Sam Cooke, he was one in a million.

  • u must be kiddin` me... a few over 100.000 views... so underrated.. sucha beautiful song like many other classic songs that are ... let's say... unknown to the young generations

  • the women gets killed by the electric chair after shooting her god for nothing cheating husband

  • had to do research on this song but as it was first tolled as a ballad (prefer this one to the ballad)

  • I loved this hip swinging song reminds you of a great relationship turned over on its head

  • I AM Sam Cooke biggest fan!

  • @MrDINO936 Are you serious!!??? I guess the black woman who owned the hotel he was staying in was working with the mob? She's the one who shot him on a bogus rape claim after he approached her wearing only a towel to complain that his money was stolen from his wallet while he was taking a shower. What an imagination!!!! Do your homework!

  • @hisfirstlady2 Sam was gettin outta control in vegas. Also, his supposed killer claims that she shot him from a distance, but the bullet wound was charred and the flesh burned by the heat of a CLOSE-RANGE shot. The bullet punctured his armpit and went into his lungs from a downward angle, which essentially means he was shot while on his knees or on the ground. The bones in his hands were shattered, and head nearly decapitated. A 55 year old lady couldnt do that, the Mob killed him in cold blood.

  • SAM COOKE WAS SET UP BY THE MOB!! HE WAS THE FIRST BLACK ARTIST TO HAVE SOME FREEDOM OVER HIS MUSIC. THE MOB WAS BACKING LABELS THEN. THEY WERE AFRAID HE WAS ABOUT TO START A NEW TREND AND DID HIM IN!! KNOW YOU'RE HISTORY. NOT HIS STORY!!!

  • @MrDINO936

Yes, it's more than likely true...back then The Mob ran the WHOLE music scene. Many jazz performers today say the same thing.

THEY dictated the rules. They didn't like it much when Sammy Davis Jnr was dating Kim Novak and warned him about it. (she was a moll)..rumour has it that it was they who took out his eye.

  • This song shows Sam's great storytelling abilities! One of his best ever!

  • Johnny got what he deserved LOL!

  • oh my gosh, this is so good. Makes me want to move my shoulders and snap my fingers. Highlight of my day. Thanks for this.

  • @sarah5160 aha, I actually JUST did that! And then I saw your message and all I could think was "Priceless." xDDD

  • RIP - Sam Cooke our Legend.

  • this is a handsom black man :)

  • @Seanryan2001 that's what I'm trying to tell people and I've heard almost all of them, from Billie Holiday to Elvis. Sam Cooke stole this and made it his own.

  • There is not more dagerous than a betrade woman.....Frankie reached into her pocket book and came up with a long fouty four...

  • NO ONE rock this song like Sam Cooke . the piano player is cooking too!

  • @buddyjb5 Everything is Cooking...Drums, bass, horns, strings....And Sam's Cooking....Larry Hilton Cooke

  • @larrycancooke2 I agree

  • The definitive version of the song, in my mind. Such a shame Sam Cooke never made it into the 70's and beyond, imagine the things he could have done.

  • @RhythmBluesSoul1 yes

but he came & did his thing! the few years he was here he left his mark...

his voice is young & clear forever.

  • What a wonderful version of the song I thought Jimmie Rodgers had written.

Thanks for uploading, I looooovvve Sam Cooke!

  • You are very welcome, and yeah, ain't Sam the greatest?

  • @oldiesrnow He sure is!!! Nobody on "American Idol" is fit to wash that man's socks!!!

  • @oldiesrnow indeed he is!

  • Lol. This song is actually based on a Ballad that was based on a true story.

Johnny didn't die and Franky went koo-koo in the years that came after. XD haha. I love this song!

  • MY Jewish Bubbe used to sing this once a year..with actions after too much seder wine. ha ha. great memories!

  • Doesn't anybody think this song is a bit frightening considering how brother Sam died? Still this is a classic song and Sam Cooke was a classic soul singer...perhaps the best ever!

  • @MrRayDarren a change is gone come give me the shivers:-(

    . when he say

I got to the movies & I go downtown.

they keep telling me dont mess or hand around....( something like that)

change gone come.... that one line..... people still ask why was he there? ...

  • Wonderful upload! Sam Cooke, angel...

  • Sick sick sick...music is truly the international language....Sam Cooke took you to another lifetime. Oh my god, I love it.....It makes you want to fall in reckless love. Makes you believe in old school love, you know?

What saddens me, though, is how Sammie died....

  • the great SAM COOKE

  • AMAN... None Better.

  • .how i love to listen to sam, his voice just melts over any song..

  • I'm young but I LOVE this song

  • And I am old,...and still love this song!

  • Gotta love it...murder with fully punctuated orchestration.

  • woah this is awesome sam cooke is dissing johnny cash through song hahaha but i love both of there music equally they are awesome!!!

  • @oldstylelife It's not about Johnny Cash, It's an old story about 2 lovers.

  • Such a good song. U dont hear vocalists like this anymore

  • Ole school, clean cut but music of the 50's and 60's. Bringing back the memories and holdin' back the tears...

  • remember me of my dad ,love you daddy !!!!

  • this is actually a really old blues song by big bill broonzy. and yes sam cooke does have the best voice of all time.

  • frankie got played and johnny was a rotten bastard... im not pro violence but he had it coming... he even spends his last seconds telling her lies right to her face...

this song is great though.. and sam cooke has my fav version of it

  • @tim3warp If my girlfriend or wife cheat, I can beat and kill her cause she had it coming.that's stupid and your stupid

  • @downbarcelona i really don't think that was what i was saying, but hey im stupid right...

i said it was a great song, and i said johnny was a bastard, he was a liar to the very end and he had something coming his way... now that was all i was saying....

you know, i could draw conclusions about your intellect based on your inability to write "you're stupid" instead of "your stupid", but it doesnt make it so..

thank you for reading my comment, processing it and coming with a reply tho:)

  • @tim3warp that's because engish is my third language.what's your excuse?

  • @downbarcelona that doesn't even make any sense..? i need an excuse to express my opinion about johnnys behaviour in this song? look man, all i was saying is that he acted like an idiot, and with no foresight and no regards for the people he was lying to, he had something bad coming his way.... does that really make me so stupid that i need to excuse my self to you?

people should be allowed to think what they want, without people like you trying to lash out and judge...

  • @tim3warp I am sorry i call'd you stupid

  • i buried my father today.sam cooke was his man! 1/2 blk,1/2 spanish girl singing this daily was hilarious for my teachers

  • Fckin Awesome version, probably one of my fave covers from him, along with They Call the Wind Mariah

  • hahaha omg i never knoe frankie was a woman omg im so stupid...hahaha that sad how johnny died....luv the oldies never stop luving it...

  • A great oldie. Thanks.

  • I love this song because my name is Frankie!!!

  • ...i was (and still am) a big fan...!

  • I was telling her about you Frankie! So so sad........see, don't listen to your friends! Haters!!!!

  • It was odd i found out that he is singing is death... correct me if i am wrong I heard he died for the same reason...

BTW he is a complete scroundral he admits he did her wrong and he admits to cheating and then he says i am yours though. and i wondered how many others was his also? still she didn't need to kill him...

Even doing Berndette in Waiting 2 Exhale is better than murder

  • My friend... The lyrics are very eerie to say the least because both Johnny(in the story) and Sam Cooke were both shot by a woman. However the difference is that in real-life Sam Cooke was shot by a hotel manager who wasn't romantically involved with Sam Cooke at all.

So to answer your question Sam Cooke didn't die for the same reason... suprisingly enough, because if he did die for that reason it would be understandable lol

  • I have learned that he was indeed shot because they claimed that he attacked a woman.

But one of his close friends took a look at his face and saw it was beaten in so I don't think he died by merely being shot.

I got too curious i went to wiki and read it tks for the correction

  • thx 4vid. this reminds a little of sam's untimely demise, to me anyway. luv sam cook. I rmbr sitN on the bksteps as a child when i heard the sad news.

  • mijn vader vind het allemaal best!

  • Yesyesyes!

    It's finally back on youtube!

    About time!!!

  • Why don't you put a restriction on tis on Bloody YOU TUBE!! My Sam Cooke playlist is gone because of the Fucking restrictions.

  • He was cheating, but professed his love up until his last breath. Frankie kind of make you want to say, "Thank God for ladies who key cars or bust out windows."
