So full of feeling...I was watching with my mouth open and my eyes wet. This is what I'd play to the woman I love (if I could play just like you - I'm working on it).
Great tastful minor jazz-blues lines! Excellent phrasing, excellent note choices.. Too bad the video encoder algorithm added digital-artifacts the tone. Still great sound, though!
I can already tell that I'll be listening to this one over and over again/
No, the strings are just the same as I've used for the last twenty years or so - Dean Markley 9-42. I fit them on all my guitars and they sound great to me for jazz, blues, rock or whatever else. I think the key to a jazz tone is just to use the neck pickup and dial the tone off until the sound loses most, but not all, of its treble frequencies.
i checked out seveal of your clips...i really enjoyed them.. i like your style and phrasing and tone... i did blue bossa on u tube ...under strat jazz my name is marsos52 if you get a chance give a listen
Thanks very much - the pickups are Fender-Lace sensors. They came as standard when I bought the guitar back in 1991. Unfortunately, the sound on this video doesn't really do them justice, but they're great pickups.
Thanks. It's quite sometime ago that I recorded this video, so I can't really remember which pickups I was using - although it looks like I'm using the middle and neck pickups.
Well the color of the strat may have something to do with the style of the player. IE someone playing a black strat may play 'darker'. Obviously the color has nothing to do with tone
You remind me a lot of Jeff Beck when you do your improv work. It's as if your fingers get hijacked and just start doing their own thing. The playing can't be replicated and it stands alone. Really nice.
I got a Fender with Noiseless pickups and preamp, and sound great to.
A question: did you made the progression that sound behind? What is your recommendation for made progressions and play it? Do you use a software? Thanks...
couple of questions: what kind of pickups do you use for this?
also I was surprised to hear the strat is more versatile... I am about to buy a new guitar these days and I have narrowed my list to the standard strat or a es-335 copy...what do you recommend for versatility? I play Jazz and blues
Thanks. The pickups on this Strat are Fender-Lace sensors; they came as standard - the guitar is a 1991 Fender Strat Plus Ultra. As for versatility, I think the strat is more versatile as I can get away with playing blues, rock, metal, country & jazz (to some degree)on it. However, this is obviously only my opinion; which guitar you prefer is down to your own personal taste.
Good question...I think a strat is more verstile, but there are certain tones that you can only get from a 335. If I had to choose, I'd go for the strat.
Awesome!!!!!!

Hello Kev did you change your strings to achieve that sound? I keep hearing I will have to do that to get the jazzy sound

nice tune, nice playing. And who knows, it really could be the color of the strat that does it. Clapton must know something...

black strats are the perfect strat version for playin' jazz..and not only for their colour!! imho they're the jazziest-sound strat amongst other!
awfulguitarplucker 3 years ago
black strats do tend to sound darker
yinyangthang 3 years ago
seems to be that basic science dictates they dont. Maybe thats not obvious. youtube should have a 'no wankers' sign up.

Yeah. I bought one of those Purple MIM Strats and it won't play jazz.
