Oh, and btw, the Vagus Nerve controls many of the symptoms of anxiety attacks. Most doctors dont know this, but the vagus nerve can be irritated by an upset stomach, which may simulate(not cause) a heart attack (I thought I was going to die). I have GERD and bad posture, so my stomach was unable to digest well. By burping, taking Alka Seltzer, eating toast and drinking lots of water, I've killed most of my symptoms(I also take Loratadine for allergies, which caused anxiety).
I think anxiety comes from not believing you can handle it if something doesn't go perfectly for you. Just knowing that you can handle anything and believing in yourself means there's nothing to be anxious about!
I used to have anxiety and it used to cripple me but I think to myself whenever I feel anxiety creeping in, if 'they' can do 'it' so can I. If they have the ability to learn and adapt, then hey guess what, so can I. Haven't looked back since and am loving it.
i like the worst case scenerio idea, HOWEVER to a person with GAD that is simply not enough to have a worst case scenerio...because to think about what bad things COULD happen actually fuels the anxiety for some. but you are on to something so kudos!

Hey, I know it doesn't seem terribly amazing at first, but try Klonopin. The stuff really works. What I did was started taking Klonopin to relieve my symptoms where I could think, then started to rationalize all my problems by understanding why they were making me anxious. It may not work for everyone, but it worked for me very well. My symptoms have cleared almost completely. Actually, they did clear, but came back after I moved into my mother's house. Turns out mold was causing my dizziness.

Thanks for your comments! I would ask you what could you do right now to help rid yourself of anxiety? You need to make a plan to overcome your anxiety the minute it hits. Whether it be a breath tactic or going on walk. Find a way to overcome it right now!
I used to be the most out going person and was the cool guy everyone wanted to be around, but I got anxiety and hardly go out of the house and have been this way for about a year..
It can happen to anyone, but with help it gets better.. Ive just started to go back to work and will hopefully get cured of this soon... Chin up guys..

This is very good advice for everyday anxiety but, doesn't deal with anxiety resulting from extreame traumas which may not be as easy to deal with and may need the help of a GP. For more everyday stress and anxiety I find exercise can get rid of the excess adrenaline and help restore your 'normal' state of mind. Keeping busy also helps. Anxiety and stress is often something we learn to live with. We just learn ways of dealing with it.
