Generally speaking, I really like the Beach Boys, but I really think that Brian Wilson must've been feeling particularly passive-aggressive the day he wrote the chorus to this song. It's like... this whole other level of annoying. They play it every day, several times a day, on the mall radio station where I work. AAAAAARRRRGH !!!
I think 93% of the views are because of top gear, and the other 7% is because some old timers finally learned how to use the Internet from their nephews at a decent speed.
I actually saw the Hondells at my college for orientation day in Longview, WA! This was the only song and from what I found out, the guy who actually sang it didn't tour with them...but I saw him later at our church! Kind of strange but interesting...forgot to say the year was 1965.
This is perhaps one of my true favorites of a remake done by the Beachboys. The Beachboys did so so many remakes. Their albums must of been made up of a few of their own hits and a few more that were remakes of songs done by other artists, like this one here by The Hondels. To those that never heard the original and don't know of the Hondels, it dosen't matter to them, but I know different and its The Hondels & their Little Honda.
@Ezdduf4kuZ You've got it wrong. Brian Wilson and Mike Love wrote this song and it was originally performed by The Beach Boys on their album "All Summer Long". The producers thought it sounded too much like a commercial and didn't promote it.
It was later covered by The Hondells, whose version received the promotion the original Beach Boys version never did. The Beach Boys didn't release it as a single until after The Hondells had a hit with their single.
@SamBlob did the beach boys ever bother to release this as a single pat boone recorded one but it was withdrawn when they heard the hondells on the radio
@spacepatrolman Now that I look it up, they didn't, at least not in the US. It was released as part of an EP: "Four By The Beach Boys", along with "Wendy", "Don't Back Down", and "Hushabye".
The Hondels were a group put together by Brian Wilson's father, after got a hold of the rights to the song, while his son was "indisposed". Their forming was for the sole purpose of performing this one song, and as far as I know, that is the only song they ever recorded.
@Nimno74 no the sunrays were produced by murry wilson the hondells were richie burns and gary usher they did an album with bank tellers poseing on the album cover
The mix on this video is different than the version on the Beach Boys' SPIRIT OF AMERICA album. Does anyone know if this version is available on any albums?
Wow, this version is indeed different from I am used to. Mike's voice is kind of funny here. I remembered that "Sonny Wison vs Cassius Love", where Brian mocked Mike for this kind of vocal ;D
The Beach Boys version of this song was the original. They had 2 different versions. The other sounds almost exactly like the Hondell's version, or more accurately their version sounds almost exactly like the Beach Boys version. Although the video of the Hondells with a very young and sexy Terry Garr as a background dancer is worth checking out.

sorry, unfortunately I don't remember where it was filmed. I'd like to know it too. ah, I would ask you if someone knows where I can find, in Italy (beacause I'm italian), the Beach Boys Discography or cd. It's very difficult to find them, because nobody loves their music, which is for me WONDERFUL. If you know something, please, write me here a message or what you want. (sorry for my english, but I'm still learning it at university and maybe a day I'll become a teacher..maybe..ahah)
Looks like is in the Canyon close to Brian's house. The one that was formerly owned by Edgar Rice Burroughs (the creator of Tarzan). I believe it was on Mecca Drive, however I may have that wrong.
if there's one band that can put you in a happy place, it's the beach boys....or make you cry for that matter. i broke down once listening to 'don't talk-put your head on my shoulder', from 'pet sounds'.....nice tune here.
This sort of reminds me of The Benny Hill Show! Especially at the very beginning (going between the Ferrari and the Sting Ray and coming out riding the bike) and the very end (the speeded-up part with him riding after the women in the Sting Ray).
An interesting departure from 409s and Deuce Coupes, too! Congrats to Brian Wilson and Mike Love for the song and Carl and Dennis Wilson for the film! This is great!
