don't be so quick to judge rukeye. it is true that the catholics have given a lot to the albanian nation and important intellectual value is there, but the muslim association also prevented Illyrian culture from being assimilated into the western christian one which would have white-washed us and eliminated a lot of the ancient aspects of our culture.
so perhaps we are primitive today, but that primitive nature is also a wonderful sign of the ancient roots preserved in our lands.

the goal is to preserve our identity through the ugly periods. each group has made contributions:
catholics, preserved and documented our language at a critical moment in time when we could have lost it all.
muslims gave us cover from an aggressive european culture that wanted to assimilate us and end our independence
orthodox gave us a partial alliance and working knowledge of the greeks which saved us from absorption and assimilation in the south.
today we are better off without religion.
