  • So the military has influence, but also antimilitary/government propaganda? ok lol.

  • I certainly need more information on Dan Ackroyd on this, because I have a funny feeling on him.

  • actually even movies about people becoming rich shun the majority of the rich as out of touch elites.

  • Also, if you look at movies such as the Legend of Billy Jean, Footloose and Revenge of the Nerds the message there is that the rich isn't always better. Many times its the brains or the poor that have just as much to offer this society and should be given as much respect. I do agree that the war movies were really skewed, but there are still many social movies with an anti-rich and spoiled consciousness.

  • I agree that there was some doctrinization that was going on with these movies but I can't agree with the Ghost Busters analogy. If you pay attention, the Ghost Busters were started by PhD fellows who I believe had been defunded by the University. They go off on their own, and run into opposition not by the Government, but a greedy politician (The Mayor) only concerned with his own career and not the safety of the city. As a child, thats what I took from it.

  • All this from ghost busters? I don't think dan akroyd was trying to make a statement about society when he wrote that movie. . .

  • My family watched the Cosby Show as I was growing up and I think it did more good than bad, in my case, but maybe others' as well around my age. Watching darker skinned people on TV and in movies in general helped me recognize some of the white hypocrisy that I was supposed to grow up being proud of. My home town now has about 1/3 black and 1/3 brown. I love seeing all the shades of skin everywhere I go.

  • @D0nutHutSlut Define brown

  • @LeeMarcelle Well, most are from Mexico, but others are from elsewhere. I can't call them all Mexican, some would be offended. I can't call them all Latino, some would be offended. I can't call them all Hispanic, some would be offended. But, their beautiful skin tones are a wide variety between 'black' and 'white'. It's a lovely mix here. Saying 1/3 brown doesn't make any real logical sense, but neither does 1/3 black and 1/3 white. I am considered white, but I own paper whiter than myself.

  • @D0nutHutSlut So where do Asians fall in your black, white, brown town? (Not starting an argument btw)

  • @LeeMarcelle The keyword in my original post was 'about', didn't have room to be specific. The town is mostly 1/3 each of those skin tones. Specifically, there are very few Asians, Middle-Easterners, Indians, etc.. I think the Asian demographic is something like about 4% at the moment, if that. The towns and cities north-east of my home town have a very different demographic range. ;-D Must be those art classes that have made me think about colors differently. Sorry for any confusion.

  • @D0nutHutSlut CoolBeans

  • Who you gonna call?

  • Thanks for having Dave Sirota on; I've missed him since "Air America" went off the air.

    Good interview.

  • Someone please help me understand. As a white male, Should I feel guilty for what white people did in the past and unfortunately are doing even now? I rail against racism and abhor it. I stand up against it, but is the "Sins of the father" really a fair deal? Black people should NEVER be made, nor expected, to forget what happend, but do I have to sit in judgement over something I didn't do? Can I live my life supporting ALL humans equally and not worry about being judged as a potential racist?

  • @Thayer79 if being white makes you s racist is ignorant we are all individuals .Why do you think you are judged for being white ? i have no none no-ta feeling of being a racists and I'm as white as i come..why do you ?

  • @ozzyrules66 Actually I don't feel judged. The point of the comment was addressing something in the video about whites not feeling guilty. I know it MAY have a different context, but there was something there that bothered me. That's all. Though there is an issue with SOME people thinking that if you're white you are automatically suspect to being racist, and until you prove that you're not racist then you can't be trusted. Not a general feeling, but I run into it in my life a number of times.

  • @Thayer79 fair enough, i guess we are just sick of the people who are racist no matter what color you are. that paint everyone with one brush . i think we do agree and you point is well taken.

  • That's probably why I never really liked the GhostBusters. I was too liberal for it! heh heh Even though I saw it as a kid in the 90s.

  • Captain Kirk and stealing the Enterprise to go and save Spock. :-)

  • I believe this has been going on since the WWII movies of the late 40's. And if I recall, the producers of the film Platoon refused to cooperate which is why the film was so true and realistic.

  • OMG, really? We are indoctrinated through propaganda since childhood? Noooo.

  • But what about the awesome messages of looking beyond differences and compassion and following your bliss of movies such as Breakfast Club or Planes, Trains, and Automobiles or the anti-establishment/military/big business message within a movie like Aliens? Or bands like The Alarm, U2, Tears For Fears?

  • well at least the hair-do's and cargo pants fell by the wayside. =D

  • i am so glad i never really watched movies right now and ha bisky upload

  • tv=brainwashing

  • You can pick and choose pop culture references to show anything. For example, Footloose was released at the same time as Ghostbusters and is an obvious call to revolt against right wing morality

  • OMFG - I had this SAME THOUGHT that Ghostbusters was right wing propoganda

  • @psynema The nasty, snide "villain" in "Ghostbusters" was with the Environmental Protection Agency. And in "GB 2," the ghosts were defeated because the busters had the idea that people would be happy seeing the Statue of LIberty roaming the NYC streets.

    Very, very Republican.

  • @polemius01 Gozer is a lesbian, and Vigo is a Communist - Carpathia is in the USSR, as is Janosz. The mayor and his jerk staff are democrats, the scientist kicks them out because ghosts aren' real (god vs. science), Winston yells at Ray for being Atheist
