  • JUNE ROX!!

  • She plays so good. I like the autoharp!

  • no wonder the harp has a broken string.....

  • Because the autoharp and mandolin are both very classic string instruments and they go well together, that's probably why Johnny was playing that along with June because of the particular sound and type of song they were performing.

  • I like this, JC backing the second best lady in Country Music = June Carter Cash, her mother being the best .... Of course.

  • wasn't it ma Maybelles auto harp she's playing I assume it was passed down to her, I see JC playing that mandolin, he had many talents and was a gifted musician as well as a singer

  • She is really beautifull in this one. And what a smile!!

  • All the Carter girls were lovely. It sometimes seems like they didn't push for beauty but when they did, Lordy! they take your breath away. Emmy Lou sings a song 'Oh How She Sang The Wildwood Flower ' about Juney and how John wasted what could have been quality time with her... She was a darling...

  • @normspot And he knew that he'd done, they loved one another with the whole of their hearts. Sonnet 116, Shakespeare.

  • I would say that is Marty Stuarts mandolin.

  • What's the name of the piece she's playing? Or is she just jamming?

  • @homegrowntomatoe90 It's called San Antonio Rose it's a western swing number check out Bob Wills' music you can find it there

  • If i see this, i realize the time goes to fast.

    As was it yesterday.

  • A real great woman. My respect to June Carter.

  • Wow! I am blown away. I hope to be able to pick on my autoharp someday. Right now I just strum, but it keeps me happy.

  • @Kaitipoo I'm sorry, I don't get it. It looks like she's just chording and strumming, like you do. I haven't had a chance to play an autoharp yet, so I'm probably underestimating what she's doing, but as a guitar player, I have to say this looks rather trivial. I'm not dissing the song or the performers, I'm just wondering what the big deal is.

  • @blargnase the big deal is that technique... looks pretty hard for my eyes. I guess i would play exactly 50 seconds and then my hand would break ;-)

  • @blargnase The autoharp seems complicated to non-musician as it has a LOT of strings, and to musicians who don't play the autoharp they think it's a cheat-instrument, and originally it was (it was a parlour instrument to allow the masses to play music) but it's come a long way since then and techniques have been devised to make the autoharp more versatile and more complicated.. (I'm a picker not a strummer) and June is picking here as well as strumming (hope this info was useful!).. ~ Ryan :O)

  • I LOVED June's gorgeous long hair. Too bad she shortened it in her last years.

  • I love her - Such spirited playing, such joy in making music!

  • What year was this, June is gorgeous as always!

  • Notice how she smiled through the whole song! lol She made me smile too!

  • I love Johnny & June, Back in the late 80's I met them both at a show in Rome Ga. Johnny,June,Helen, Anita & WS Holland all signed my dads 1950's Yahama Guitar...GREAT PEOPLE!!!

  • Wonderful!!!

  • wish i was a hillbilly instead of a funtimentalist.

  • i wish i grew up back then, girls that were good looking still had class

  • happy birthday june! (6-23-1929)

  • What a talented couple!

Who knows how many instruments between them they could play and

Sing such a variety of songs, thier interest was so vast. Smart, lovely, kind, talented, Thank you for the lovely post!

  • Holy goodness! I didn't know Johnny Cash could play a Mandolin!!!!

  • that dress is gorgeous!

  • awesome job!

  • Many Autoharp players don't play on the lap anymore. June had a great style.

  • Kick ass June!!!

  • Beautiful. June is so lovely.

  • Since whan has Johnny Cash been playin' a mandolin?

  • Thanks June this is GREAT , you'r Mum sure's pride !!

    willy

  • What a stunning, beautiful talent!!!

Anyone offer a suggestion of a modern equivalent to that talent, beauty, and love of music?

  • Check out Loreena McKennitt if you don't mind World Music.

  • Wow she was really beautiful!

  • I've never seen Johnny play the banjo before! He did a good job, as did June on the autoharp.

  • That's a mandoline but never saw him playing that either!

    R

  • Mandolin, actually. Mandoline is the device that cuts potatos to make French Fries.

  • It's strange to see him play the banjo! It's ways to small for him ;-) But for me it's also strange when I see videos of June playing guitar!

  • this is awesome

  • Man, I can see why Johnny was in love with her all his life.

  • @Carlinfan1 she was a proud country gal, and very very pretty... not beautiful in a Reese Witherspoon way, just a great person with a huge heart, she saved Johnny's life many times

  • @floridajeet Amen to that. To me shes more beautiful than Reese Witherspoon, even putting her beautiful voice and playing aside, Johnny probably wouldn't have even been half of who he was without her.

  • is there a string broken?

  • I love her smile.

  • i love the sound of the autoharp ecpecialy on this song on i get myself one i'm gonna learn to play this

  • This is from 1981 Live in London at the Wembley Arena. Great show!!

  • I love the look of joy on June's face...playing that autoharp for all its worth in memory of her mom. She is just radiant and so beautiful in this video!

  • Not only was June a beautiful lady;she sure could play. That was awesome!!

  • Damn, she's breaking strangs on that thang! What a great video, thank you for posting!

  • June was BEAUTIFUL!!! So was her family and ALL of their music together! Wonderful!!! Deb

  • my god she's beautiful!!!

  • Yer not wrong JC! She was all woman. Reece Witherspoon playing her was a great choice.

    Grooooowl!

  • june picked her herself to play that part

  • Nobody has commented yet on the fact that JC is playing? a mandolin on this one, what's up with that?

  • Yeah, that little mandolin looks like a toy in the hands of a man his size, doesn't it? Looks like he enjoys it though.

  • I have a question. Can take clips from youtube like this one for example on your pc? thx anyway

  • Just Google 'download video from youtube' and you will get several options.

  • huh?

  • no its june carter cash

  • Is that Reese Witherspoon?

  • I so enjoyed watching and listening to June Carter play the autoharp in memory of her mother.

  • i ment in a good way :)

  • kockar7, don't feel too bad...I'm the biggest advocate for decorum on this site but I must admit that while watching what you said was the first thing that came to mind! Boys will be boys, what can I say? But I love the Carters and their music, make no mistake about it!

  • are fucking insane? Why would you say that about june carter cash?If johnny heard you he would beat the crap outta you.

  • im 11. thanks for taking up for june carter cash.you r right 2.i just told him off bad!but keep up the good work.

  • thanks a Bunch! No one should talk about june like that.

  • thats right.

  • Excatly Right

  • Picka.

  • kockar7...your ignorance and disrespect has no limits.

  • your nothin but a piece of krap u perv!

  • I'll never be able to look at an autoharp seriously again after seeing "A Mighty Wind".

  • Don't you just love that hair! Pretty woman! That mandolin(?) Johnny is playing looks so small to him being such a big guy. LOL June and Johnny were made for each other.

  • What's that for a instrument which Johnny Cash is playing?

  • It looks like Johnny is playing a mandolin. Not 100% sure tho.

  • I believe that would be an electrified mandolin.

  • she sure was

  • great show

  • aw she looks happy

  • she is pounding at that instrument! WTH, have some respect.. lol

  • cant say enuf bout the family but just look at her face .......aint she havin some fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and she broke it too lol

  • GREAT GREAT GREAT VIDEO - thank you so much -

play also autoharp - great instr. and great song.

love this version - also Johnny with the mand.

    THANKS

  • She even broke a string.....Oh, and look at the ring on her finger....what a gratitude of love John.

  • I've never seen anyone play the autoharp at that end of the chord bar. Amazing.

  • Sara Carter, June's aunt, generally played that end of the autoharp on all of the Carter Family's famous recordings of the 20s and 30s.

  • OMG she can play the shit out of that thing!!

  • omg she was adorible

  • GREAT! love to see June on the Autoharp -

play the autoharp,too... cool video -

also Johnny Cash on the mandolin(also play mand.^^)

GREAT VIDEO! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • Johnny Cash at 1:03

  • Broken string and all! And JC on the mandolin in the background. Love watching her having fun on the autoharp.

  • She has such a young face

  • What a gift, to see the joy on her face. She really enjoys playing the autoharp here. Notice, she is playing on the short end of the strings, like Pop Stoneman, Kilby Snow and Sara Carter.

  • She's just strumming... and she broke a string. She was a much better autoharpist than this video demonstrates.

  • If this video doesn't blow your mind, you don't have one.

  • She does an amazing job with that autoharp!
