All you have to do to make one is tear the HDD apart and find the two wires or solder joints that power the copper coil. Sometimes they hide the contacts under the top magnet, which pulls off with a pair of plyers. Solder the wires to a headphone jack or plug them into a home stereo amplifier and it becomes a speaker.
yeah, the sound is being generated from the high frequency vibrations of the hard drive components. I'm sending music via an audio amplifier directly to the voice coil actuator of the hard drive 'arms'.
