I've been told that hoarding can be induced by severe depression and stress, so it may not be a mental disorder per se. I mean, they did say that in his 20's, Bill was okay, and had a girlfriend. Kind of makes sense that he might have been caught in that transitional stage of his life where he might have learned better habits. It sounds like after his parents died, he was compelled to retreat into his house, live by himself, and just never got around to coming back out.

How sad is the system when someone is allowed to live in this manner, by "saving" their own WASTE?? How frickin GROSS is that?? And how sick is that poor man? This sure as hell AIN'T normal!!! Why is he allowed to continue on his own when he obviously cannot live by himself responsibly?? A danger to himself and to the public in general. Freaking GROSS, I almost threw up watching this!!! LMAO.. hoarding can cause depression.. not depression causes hoarding plenty of hoarders DO NOT HAVE CLINCIAL DEPRESSION.. my best friend is a hoarder plus, my sister in law works as an professional organizer and works with hoarders. so people whom suffer from depression do not naturally become hoarders.. hoarders have an OCD just MAKES them feel a need to save EVERYTHING.. clinically not related to deprssion.. William here isnt depressed hes sick wrong and wack- job but not depressed..

That girl made a good point. They need help, but often don't get any. It's OK to clean their houses out and things, but if no one helps with the problem they are just going to start hording again. The cycle continues on and on without help.
