@Vongolianful: There are wars going on all around you, little (or not so little) undeclared wars that you don't usually see, because you're not "supposed" to (or for some people, because you don't really WANT to). Tresspassing is illegal. "Illegal" and "bad" are NOT the same thing. It was once ILLEGAL in the territory of Kansas to demonstrate, or even advocate, for the abolition of slavery. There are MANY other examples.

@mowgli2071 Illegal is against the law, and bad things are against the law because bad things are contrary to morality. Morality is one basis of the law. When you say "It was ONCE illegal.." you are saying that before the people of Kansas to be able to demonstrate, or even advocate, for the abolition of slavery, it first became legal. Meaning it was first approved by the law before it became possible. You can't do illegal things. And I know for a fact that tresspassing is never legal anywhere.

@Vongolianful; Also, For the sake of the "room", a little more on Kansas: It FIRST legal to advocate for the abolition of slavery AND THEN a law was passed making it illegal. What was the biggest contributor to making abolitionism legal AGAIN, was that people VIOLATED of that set of laws. What is legal today is made illegal tomorrow, and vice versa. It was TRESPASSING for blacks to sit in the front of busses, in the 1960's American south. Watch "Freedom Riders". Ditto for lunch counters.

why not? it's free energy with relatively no emissions (constructing and maintaining the wind turbine produces some, but very few compared to other energy sources)

Well, it does have certain advantages, and it's not an ultimate evil. but lets not forget about the downs - construction price, the amount of materials that needs to be used to build a decent wind farm (you need hundreds of turbines - BIG turbines), and the big one - RELIABILITY. You need 5-30m/s wind - otherwise - it's not effective. Storing energy and transporting it (wind turbines aren't effective everywhere) at this scale would come with many additional costs.

And of course, wind turbines have potential to prove very useful, but IMO they are a little bit overrated.

I think that we should concentrate on geothermal energy - thanks to the new technology which allows building geotherms everywhere, (not just near the tectonic plates' frontiers), they've become a very reasonable clean source of energy.

@lbueso Do you KNOW just how much natural resources, goes into just one google search...then look at your computer, and figure out, exactly how many humans literally DIED, now suffer from diseases from mining the raw material to make it, and... in finding all of the materials to build it, and then figure out how many years it will take for all of your puter to bio-degrade? Then ask yourself, what cause are you helping? The book, to me, is an eye opener... RESPECT the stuff that we do have.

I'd have to look into all the factors involved to get a definitive answer on the book vs computer issue.

As I see it, I already have a computer that already has been manufactured and already been shipped to me. The damage has been done. If I buy the book on printed page, it has to be printed, boxed, and shipped to me or to a local store. It just doesn't seem right to me when I can read it online and avoid those costs.

What are your thoughts?
